Sometimes in our scientifically-provable comparisons of the personalities of NBA players with stando

Sometimes in our scientifically-provable comparisons of the personalities of NBA players with standouts in other fields, we come across a case in which the details match so perfectly, in which the evidence is so unimpeachable, that we have to separate them from the pack.

Who are these great men? Welcome to the world of The Crossover. And who better to start it off than the possessor of one of the league's best crossovers: Stephon Marbury.

Stephon Marbury

Even fifty years from now, when old school cats are having arguments about the greatest high school players to come out of New York City, there are a few players who will always deserve mention. Kenny Anderson. Lew Alcindor. Earl Manigault. Felipe Lopez. "Starbury" is on that level.

Hailing from Coney Island, Stephon was featured prominently in a book by the revered writer Darcy Frey while still a freshman at Lincoln High School. So touted a prospect, his high school years were turned into a movie starring Denzel and a promising young actor named Ray Allen who has been unheard from since.

From Coney Island, Starbury landed at Georgia Tech, and quickly jumped out of there and into the NBA with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Built around a talented young core of Stephon, Kevin Garnett, and Tom Gugliotta, the Wolves made the playoffs for the first time in franchise history, and things could only get better, as the following season, the Wolves made it back to the postseason and even earned their first playoff win. Eventually, he fell out of favor, and was traded to New Jersey, then again to Phoenix. Wherever he went, he played well; he did, however, develop a reputation as a selfish player, not an attribute that does a lot for point guards.

It only went downhill for our man's rep from there.

He played on the US Olympic team in 2004, which got its ass handed to it by Puerto Rico, Lithuania, AND Argentina - earning them a bronze medal - and a very well-publicized fall of Western civilization. For the first time, American professional basketball players needed to put in actual effort against other teams in international competition. And Stephon Marbury was part of the team that didn't.

He also got traded to the Knicks, a development everybody loved because they assumed being back at home in New York City would help ground Starbury and elevate his game to another level. Apparently these folks never saw "He Got Game," because while certain things definitely got elevated, Starbury's game was not one of them.

From there it got kinda crazy. Maybe the media has been a little quick to jump to conclusions, but you have to admit, some of the things he said...well, just see for yourself:

"I drink life’s happy water which is bottled at the divine source." (July 2007)

"Don’t get mad at me, because I’m telling you what’s real. One plus one is two, all day long, and it’s never gonna change." (Summer 2007)

"[My sister] been praying for this day forever. And it finally happened yesterday when I kissed her. And I felt her body and I felt her soul. I was delighted to be kissing her." (July 2007)

"Are you going to get in the truck?" (2005)

That last one may be a bit unfair to bring up now. Foreplay is between two people, and what happens in the bedroom - or in a St John's parking lot - isn't really our business.

And though it's fairly easy laugh and judge a dude, it's kinda important not to lose sight of the good stuff. There's no question that he never forgot Coney Island and the entire city during his rise to stardom. He even did work with a local company to create the "Starbury" line of sneakers - which retailed for $15 - meant for city kids who couldn't afford Jordans. Sadly, it was not ultimately successful, but he did his best to use his connections to do something for the hood. More than you can say for, well, for Jordan.

Stephon Marbury's Crossover: DMX

Just like Starbury, DMX began his career full of promise. It started with an appearance in The Source monthly column "Unsigned Hype" in 1991. After that, a record deal with Columbia Ruffhouse, which came to an end shortly. Pretty soon X was in jail, which would become a theme later on.

When the Dark Man X did reach the big show in the late 90s, he found himself surrounded by young stars, recording with Ma$e, the LOX, Canibus, Meth and Red (not to mention LL Cool J, but his ass was old by then) early on. In 1998, he released the game-changing "Get At Me Dog," which was deemed too hardcore by the suits and was infamous for finding an audience even without MTV support.

He reached new heights by releasing two number one albums in one calendar year (It's Dark and Hell is Hot and Flesh of my Flesh, Blood of my Blood) - the first artist ever to do so. He released the hit album...And Then There was X the following year, probably setting some other new record.

But he wouldn't be Stephon Marbury's Crossover if there wasn't a similar downturn. It all started innocuously enough, what with the speeding and possession, but then less common stories started to come out like being arrested for mistreating airline staff, or barricading himself inside to avoid arrest for animal cruelty, and impersonating a federal agent at JFK airport.

And then there was stuff like this:

"What the fuck is a Barack?! Barack Obama. Where he from, Africa?" (March 2008)

"Bite you in your motherfucking ass and rip one cheek off. Have you shitting sideways bitch." (????)

But the up-then-down career trajectories are not all these two have in common. Like Marbury, DMX stayed true to himself and his roots. Before he blew up, his only friends were his dogs, and he's continued to keep dogs around him constantly. The animal cruelty charge came at him not because of disrespect, but because he loved them too much to have them buried anywhere but his own yard.

They also both lack any semblance of acting ability, as Stephon marbury couldn't even get cast in the movie about his own life (!) - and DMX has two ways of delivering his lines in his movies: scared and angry. And they both sound the same.

Like Steph, haters want to say his career is already over. But X is gonna keep on going. Who knows if it's the smart move, it's what's gonna happen so just ride with it.

That's right Eminem is back at it again making his sixth studio album. Yea its been a while since we last heard from him but the guy has been through alot lately. The next album is supposedly going to be called called "King Mathers". There is no official release date but we might see it if were lucky at the end of this year or sometime next year. Artists such as 50 Cent, DMX, Obie Trice, T.I. and Cashis are supposed to appear on the album. I can't wait to hear it, Eminem is a legend.

We often hear potential customers talk about producing their music programs on IPOD.
This seems like

We often hear potential customers talk about producing their music programs on IPOD.

This seems like a simple solution to many, and one that would give a program lots of variety.

For some that may be true.

The great weakness, among several that we see in using IPODs, is lack of control.

Most people expect to have more control with the IPOD. Instead they really wind up with less.

The problem comes in the basic scheduling feature, the shuffle. The IPOD simply randomizes your music. It doesn't take key song attributes into consideration when picking the next song.

DMX Music Designers spend tons of time thinking about the mix. In many ways the mix is more important than the individual tracks.

We like to think in sets. Generally sets of four songs.

These sets are created to give a program consistency from hour to hour, day to day.

The music in each program is coded for things like, tempo, texture, type and a wide range of sound. All codes are specifically selected for use in that particular program.

There are two distinct audiences for retail music. The customer and employee.

Customers generally spend 15 to 20 minutes in the store. Employees can be there all day.

Keeping repetition low and creating an interesting song mix become key to satisfying both groups.

For the Customer you want the mix to reflect the core music styles and give them the full experience within a quarter hour.

Your branded music program might contain four 'types' of songs. For instance there might be Pop, Rock, Ballad, and Country elements chosen because they reflect your brand in sound. Each is equally important to the program.

We design the sound around playing all four types in every set of four songs. In this way the customer gets the full branded sound within every 15 minutes.

This is sort of a "Music Design 101" explanation, I know. I think you'll see that a great deal of detail goes into each Music Design Project.

For the employee we consider hour to hour rotations to make sure songs move hour to hour. The last thing you want are your employees hearing the same songs at the same time everyday.

Therefore we work with our scheduling software to force music to play at different times of day. A song playing today at 10AM shouldn't play tomorrow at the same time.

It is easy for us to audit this process to ensure good rotation. Generally speaking, the better the rotations work the less listener fatigue we notice.

Often times the better the mix sounds, the more work that goes into it.

So when making music decisions for your business consider what you want to achieve. Doing it right adds a great deal to the environment within your business.

The wrong music can become an irritant.

Choose wisely.

Well, 50 has been begging for this beef since he first debuted in 2000. Now, Mr. Curtis Jackson may get what he wants. The G-Unit General was recently interviewed about Jay-Z. The interivew focused on 50 earning more money than Jay-Z this past year. Somehow, 50 Cent, being the way he is began to insult Jay-Z. He went on to say that: "Jay-Z was a nobody until he began dating Beyonce." Wow. 50 also said: "I don't believe that Jay-Z is really worth $1 Billion." The funny thing is that nobody ever said that. The last I heard, Jay-Z was worth around $600 Million. Still, this comes months before 50 Cent's new album, Before I Self Destruct. Also, his album is due for release only a week apart from Jay-Z's The Blueprint 3. So, we see what 50 Cent is doing. This also comes a day after Jay-Z is announced to collaborate with DMX, who recently began a feud with G-Unit. But, where is the love. It seems like 50 ends feuds only to start new ones. Honestly, its time to get back to the music and get over the beef. But, yes, some of 50's lines in "I Get Money" were for DMX. But, for unknown reasons.

For nearly two years, Ja Rule has been in the studio working on his “new” album, The Mir

For nearly two years, Ja Rule has been in the studio working on his "new" album, The Mirror, many versions of the album have come out on the supposed release dates. Now, Ja Rule says that the official version is ready, and will be coming out on October 28, 2008 through Murder Inc./Universal. Rule says that there is a lot of unexpected things on this album as far as production and other things go. Of some of his productions, Ja said that his collaboration with Sha Money XL was strictly business. Here's the quote: "Well, I heard this hot beat, and I felt like I had to have it, so I pursued it. I had talked to Busta Rhymes about the beat, and I told him I wanted it. He asked me if I was sure, I said yeah, I don't care where it came from, I need that beat. So, he told me it came from Sha Money, but I still wanted it, so I paid for the beat, and Sha sent it to me, but that's no truce whatsoever." Ja Rule also mentioned that he has a track on the album entitled "The Murda Is Back" with Jay-Z and DMX. In proper fashion, Irv Gotti produced the joint, and it will be featured on the album. While he mentioned that the track "Sunset" featuring The Game will not make the album cut, he did announce "Sunset (remix)," which not only features Game is also features a verse from Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube. Also, the remix features production from Dr. Dre. When asked about his past conflicts with Dre Ja said: "Its in the past, I mean that was a minor feud to begin with. Actually, the feud has been over for four years. We all attended the Vibe Awards, and me and Dre talked and he's the one who called truce, so its always been love. People always ask me when did me and Snoop stop beefin', but we never did to begin with, 50 Cent didn't like me, and Snoop just did a song with him, that's it." Other tracks that will remain are "Pushin' It" with Robin Thicke, "Body" with Ashley Joi, and "Uh Ohhh!!!" with Lil Wayne. Ja Rule then showed us some newer tracks. Keeping up with tradition, he spoke on "New York Pt. 3" with not only Fat Joe and Jadakiss, but also many other NYC heavyweights. The track features Fabolous, Memphis Bleek, Lil Kim, and Mims. When asked about the collaboration, Ja said: "These are cats I've known for a while, but I was surprised when they all agreed to jump on the track. You see, New York has been lacking the unity it once held, so I was trying to unite the city a little bit. Man, I talked to Fab in Manhattan, and he said he'd be glad to do it, plus, you know me and Memph Bleek go hard. I was sort of surprised that Lil Kim went for it seeing how me and her never really conversated. Now, Mims is a different story, I didn't know him, but I know his producers. They told me that he's trying to take over the game and that he's real hungry so he'd be glad to do the track. So, then I had an all-star lineup for The Mirror." Also on tap for the album is a collaboration with D.O.E., and Justin Timberlake produced by Timbaland. Ja Rule went on to mention that he has plans of "The Inc. Is Back" with Black Child, Caddillac Tah, Young Merc, and Newz. Ja Rule then went on to mention that the "Judas" track had been scrapped due to his recent reconciliation with his foes, DMX, and Ashanti. He then mentioned a potential single, "Welcome To My World," with Lloyd and Ashanti. Mary J. Blige is also supposed to appear on the album.

Well, will this do the trick for the #1 Murderer, we'll have to wait and see. With that many collabos, I might openly support the Rule again.

I know that I have said some outrageous things in the past, but it does make sice (most of the time)

I know that I have said some outrageous things in the past, but it does make sice (most of the time) doesn't it? Exactly what I thought. I have said that Memphis Bleek could run this rap game, I compared Lil Wayne to Tupac. Heck, I even took on The CW and BET (multi-million dollar organizations) when all I have is $20 to fund my little channel. Bold, huh, yes, it sure is. Now, I'm about to tell you that Mims is our new Ja Rule. How, is what you are probably wondering, but just let me tell you. In 1999, Ja Rule debuted on the scene with a deep voice, and hardcore and obscene lyrics. That was his first album, in his sophomore release, he began doing love songs. By his third disc, he did as much singing as he did rapping. Apparantley a little too much, becuase since 2003, that does not fly (from Ja Rule). He's only had one successful love song since (2004's "Wonderful" with R. Kelly and Ashanti). Sure, he gets airplay, but its not the same. People say he sings too much, but they will accept it from any other rapper. The average Anti-Murderer will say he doesn't know what he's talking about, but you already have. Lets take it back one year, it is now early 2007 (sad times). Outside (well, at least in my area) it was very warm and very rainy, then it turned very cold. But, all of a sudden, it turned hot. That's because rapper, Mims, from Washington Heights, New York bursted onto the scene. He promised to bring New York back, he got clowned and still does to this day, but he brought New York back. His debut single was "This Is Why I'm Hot" released through Corey Llewellyn's American King Music and distributed by Capitol Records. Quickly, Mims became that dude in hip hop, he was even hotter than the likes of Fat Joe, and Lil Wayne. For a month at least. That is reminiscent of what Ja Rule had did eight years earlier, he came out with a song that was different, and it turned into a hit, but many wrote Ja off as a "one hit wonder." This is much like what happened with Mims, fans loved "This Is Why I'm Hot," but after the song got old, the insults came out. All of a sudden, he can't rap, he sucks, why ddoes everybody like him, then finally, "one hit wonder." To end all of that talk, Mims released "Like This," which was lukewarm, at best. Even though the song did get some substantial airplay in some areas, he still did not escape that "one hit wonder" label. But, why, its already been established.

Mims was determined to succeed, despite the fact that no one was feeling his style, he released his third single, "Without You" with LeToya Luckett. That song had a great sound, and would have done better as the album's lead single as it would have gone farther that "This Is Why I'm Hot." But, it was released a year ago to the day, but Capitol Records decided to shut down for the year, and halt the promotion of the single, and the December release of his sophomore album. Despite that, Mims said he was coming with some fire. He had released "Like This (remix)" with Sean Kingston in late 2007, and it was getting some airplay. In March 2008, he teamed up with a crew of rappers, Red Cafe, Currensy, and Pitbull and released a single. The single happened to be "We Really Do This," produced by DJ Nasty. This song sort of reminds you of Ja Rule's single, "Its Murda" with DMX and Jay-Z, as it was released in early 2000. But, little did we know, Mims was ready to change up. He didn't completely go from "Its Murda" to "Between Me and You," but he did change his style. His next single, released on July 29, 2008 (the same day as his album) was the female and radio-friendly, "Keep Up With Me." This song gained a lot of airplay, and was the song that completely saved Mims from being a "one hit wonder." Now, Capitol Records is wasting no time, they already have plans for Mims' third album to come out in March 2009. It is titled I Am Hip Hop's Savior. He previewed the album track, "Therapy" featuring Pharrell. It got a good reception, so Mims decided to give the fans the street single. That's when the introspective, "BaRock Star," comes into play. Initially, the song didn't do very well, but Mims went back to the guy that gave him his most popular remix, Junior Reid. Reid agreed to give Mims a chorus for "BaRock Star," and the song was greenlighted. The remix replaced the original song on the radio and the internet, and the video was shot. Mims is back before he even left, WOW. Now, its time to give the radio what they want. Mims said that when he came to bring it, he was going to bring it. In late 2008, he released I Am Hip Hop's Savior first single. The song is the Blackout-produced "Donkie Booty" with Trey Songz. This song is very much original, and Mims officially debuted his singing voice. The song has hit radio, and people are buzzing about Mims and his third album. His past releases have sold 300,000 copies and 500,000 copies. For this next record, e wants to surpass the Gold and aim for the Platinum.

The media has reported that DMX was hospitilized for fear of a stroke but, DMX's lawyer won't confirm it. He did say that his condition was serious at the time but, he should be ok. "It was serious enough for him to be brought and taken into a treatment facility. He spent the night there last night, and he will probably spend tonight there as well," his lawyer told Billboard.com. "I don't think it's going to be an ongoing thing or a life-threatening situation. He's going to be alright."

I bet you if DMX would stay away from the drugs he would be able to stay away from the hospital. He probably was stressed about going to court and decided to hit the pipe. It was a little too much for him and he got scared and said 'TAKE ME TO THE HOSPITAL". LOL All jokes aside I really hope that DMX gets his life together.
