i couldn't help but pick up september's issue of instyle, as josh is named a "man of style." wow, is all i have to say to that. for peat's sake, this is the guy who made a career out of wearing hawaiian shirts and ratty old sneakers as pacey witter while hitting red carpets in jeans and a beanie. comfortable has always been his thing. and hey, why not? he was loved for it.

but now at 30, josh is dating an ultimate european beauty, diane kruger, and can no longer get away with the oversized tshirts and baggy pants. have you seen this guy lately? fashion icon in the making. diane has certainly rubbed off on him. and in a good way.

"The major shift that's happened in the last two years is that now I actually look at myself in the mirror before I step outside," he tells instyle.

well, i don't think anyone is minding that. he's hit up numerous fashion parties over the last year wearing the likes of gerogio armani, roberto cavalli and calvin klein. and looking damn good doing it. our lovable pacey witter has sure grown up.

Nothing in my life feels real anymore. I've turned my entire life into fiction. It's not even real life that I'm living anymore. Oh, god, I hate this. I'm so angry. I'm so angry. Okay, so it's not the most dramatic entrance ever, but, as a whole, I feel like it's a pretty good kick start to the list. And The Brakes are great.

2. A song with a literary allusion: Lolita - Throw Me the Statue

Bubbly vocals and jangly guitars. Infectiously poppy. This song makes me happy--very much unlike Nabokov's masterpiece of the same name. But as a side note, if anyone could explain to me what exactly is going on in this video (particularly the end), that would be great. I mean, I get the lecherous old man and all, but somewhere around 2:30 in my mind just explodes.

3. A song released 20+ years ago: Tangled Up In Blue - Bob Dylan

This needs no description. What hipster doesn't love them some Dylan? Tangled Up In Blue is one of my favorites, and this is by far my favorite version of it. Enjoy it and try to ignore the fact that Dylan must have been running late from his audition for The Dark Knight.

4. A rap song that fits within the realm of hipsterness: Ain't That Right - G. Love

Flow to G. Love's flow! A definite feel-good summer track. Not definite rap. Shh.

5. A song by the first band you saw in concert: Half A Heart - Barenaked Ladies

This could have been many songs, but I felt this was the best fit. Plus, I'm a sucker for Ed ballads. You can just smell that self-pity and self-loathing. Oh, ambivalence. Oh, memories. Oh, Barenaked Ladies! (Oh, Ed!) Do you understand my tenderest affections for them now?! They were my first. I will never forget that night. <3

6. A song that mentions or alludes (clearly) to a historical figure: Decatur, Or, Round Of Applause For Your Stepmother! - Sufjan Stevens

Not one, but two mentions! Anyone who has not been distracted by the lines "Stephen A. Douglas was a great debater, but Abraham Lincoln was the great emancipator!" running rampant through his or her head during an American history exam has not lived. Thanks for the answer to that multiple choice, Sufjan.

7. A song employing a foreign language either in part or whole: Larmes - Pauline Croze

Pauline Croze is, without a doubt, the best use of my eight year French education. That being said, I rarely understand what she's saying. Although I do know larmes is French for 'tears.' I also believe she's saying "The flow of our tears purifies our souls" at the end there. See AP French? You were not entirely in vain.

8. A song that describes your hometown: Welcome to Suburbia - Jeremy Messersmith

"We've got cul-de-sacs and barbecues in suburbia. Welcome to the rest of your life." Enough said. (Jeremy Messersmith is an up-and-coming singer/songwriter from Minneapolis. He's got good stuff. Check him out.)

9. A song that mentions fruit: Fruit Tree - Nick Drake

Nick Drake is a musical staple of mine. Excellent lyricist, guitarist and singer. This song is particularly poignant as it muses on fame after death ("Fame is but a fruit tree so very unsound /It can never flourish till its stalk is in the ground"); at 26, and in the midst of his relatively unsuccessful career, Drake overdosed. His genius was only recognized years after his untimely death. This song is both beautiful and eerily prophetic. His catalog is a veritable treasure trove. Go forth and ransack it.

10. The most heart wrenchingly sad song you know: Between the Bars - Elliott Smith

Elliott Smith is yet another tragic story of one gone before his time. Between the Bars is a bittersweet ballad and a whispered pledge to help another fend off their demons. It makes me sad. And Elliott Smith makes me sad. That's all.

12. An unlikely cover: Bitches Ain't Shit - Ben Folds

WARNING: This is song contains explicit lyrics.. if you couldn't tell. I never thought someone could make this into a emotive ballad of betrayal and lost love. Well played, Ben Folds. Well played.

13. A song that name drops another artist: Taxi Driver - Gym Class Heroes

Look! More rap. Does this compensate for #4? It should. Plus, it manages to smoothly name drop multiple bands that could wear this button with unironic pride. (For the record, we want this one.)

14. A song by the band you most swoon over: Skin Is, My - Andrew Bird

I'm going to restrain myself. Once you get me going on Andrew Bird, it's only a matter of time before everything I say starts to sound like high-pitched fangirlish SQUEE's of delight.

I watched each episode of the first season of Moonlight and had very mixed feelings about it. At the end of each episode of Moonlight I was always reminded of the movie The Princess Bride. There is a scene in The Princess Bride where the main character Wesley is recounting his time spent with the dread pirate Roberts. Westley tells how every night the Dread Pirate Roberts would say,"Good night, Westley. Good work. Sleep well. I'll most likely kill you in the morning." That is how I felt at the end of each episode of Moonlight. "Nice episode, pretty entertaining, an improvement over last week. I'll most likely kill this DVR timer in the morning." This went on week after week until I found myself watching the season finale thinking, "wow that ended up being a pretty good series." Let me clarify, Moonlight is no Heroes by any means, but it was definitely better than the Bionic Woman of which I only made it through 4 episodes before I jumped ship.

Side Note: It looks like NBC has jumped ship on the Bionic Woman as well.

The individual episode plots were typically far more interesting than the overall storylines that carried from episode to episode which were very predictable and not well played out. I will say that by far the best episode involved one of the main characters from the first half of the season getting killed. It was at that point that I finally took notice and said, "this show is really starting to improve." Unfortunately, plot lines like that were often overshadowed at the end of the episode when the guilt-ridden, sullen, unhappy vampire takes one more step towards finding true love with the beautiful human girl who thinks is torn between her boyfriend and the Vampire of her dreams who is tall, pale and a little fangy. Kind of the illegitimate child of Interview with a Vampire and Dawson's Creek (see image right).

Anyway, now I find myself having to face the fact that however reluctantly I am sad that Moonlight will not be returning. I thought that the writing got better over time, I think there were a couple of casting issues and a few of the plot devices were a little cheesy but all in all it was entertaining. On the upside, I will have an empty DVR slot this fall.

Just to throw a little salt in the wound Alex O'Loughlin (Mick St. John, Vampire Detective) was recently featured in one of TV Guide's Top 20 Sexiest Sci-Fi stars on Television or some pointless list like that. Can you really consider him a Sci-Fi star if his show got canceled after one season? I don't know, I suppose he should at least be able to cash in on his one season of fame.

Dawson's Creek. The theme song was originally supposed to be "Hand in my Pocket" by Alanis Morissette. Somehow, I'm glad that never happened. Don't get me wrong, Jagged Little Pill might as well be framed on my wall for being such a definitive album of my pre-teen years, but we needed a new kind of alternative sound by this point. The show had two strengths: location and plot. Anyone could relate to the small, quiet town. It wasn't pretentious. And, nothing was too over the top. I know what you're thinking. Pacey. Tamara Jacobs. Endless cliffhangers. But, even the most scandalous of sub-plots were played out in the most understated and realistic ways. The show had one weakness, however: the characters' use of vocabulary.

Now, it's nice these characters had something bold to say to each other at all times, and it's nice that in the most awkward of moments, they felt the need to be as open with each other as they possibly could. But, we all started walking around thinking this was how 13 year olds should act and talk, too. I guess I think of it as the anti-My So-Called Life, only because these Creek characters said what they meant. (Open for interpretation.) When the gang went off to college, the show was history. If you were still tuning in post-'00, you were just pining away after Van Der Beek's new hair cut.

What I liked about this show went beyond the innocent, American Eagle '90s culture it embodied (which isn't that great, looking back at it) but for the way Kevin Williamson delivered it. That show was Kevin Williamson. That genre, those actors, that whole time period was Williamson. A favorite episode of mine called "The Scare" paid homage to the horror classics and sort of poked fun at the work Williamson was doing at the time with movies like Scream. There were dimensions to this show that go unnoticed. We can't say it was ahead of its time. It was exactly what someone should think about when they think about 1998 pop culture.

I don't know if I'll ever look at a second floor window the same, lit from inside, Joey vulnerably standing before Dawson in her Gap jean jacket, a variety of Spielberg posters lining the teenage boy's bedroom walls as we all hold our breath to see what happens next.

1- Full House- Acho que essa foi a primeira série que eu assisti. Adoraaaavaaa via sempre depois do colégio almoçando. Era "apai" pelo Uncle Jess(muito gato) adorava a DJ e a Steph( vocês viram que ela ficou viciada em crystal meth? Ok já largou e é mãe mas baphonn) e principalmente a Michelle né. As gêmeas Olsen são muito estranhas mas eu não consigo odiar elas porque elas eram a Michelle caraaa. Enfim um clássico.. esse era um box que eu queria ter. Se alguém quiser me presentear fique a vontade.

2- Dawson's Creek - Aii Joey e Dawson meu deusss eu chorava tanto porque esses dois não se acertavam. Odiei quando ela namorou o Pacey ela era soul mate do Dawson como ela perdeu a virgindade com o melhor amigo dele? BITCH! Eu era apaixonada pelo Dawson achava ele gatíssimo. Vejo todo dia de manhã antes do trabalho mas acho a Joey uma malaaaaaaaaaa e o Dawson um bizarro muita irca!

3- Felicity - Eu sei que geral vai falar que era muito chato. Eu amavaaaa. Sou drama queen assumida e chorava e sofria muito com o sofrimento da pobre loser Felicity. Passava maaaaaaaaaaal com o Ben (até hoje) e queria porque queria colocar o nome do meu filho de Benjamin. Continuo achando lindo mas tenho bom senso e pena do meu filho, aqui no Brasil ele ia virar "tomada" no primeiro dia de escola e ser loser para todo o sempre.

4- Seinfeld - Seinfeld é um clássico não podia não entrar aqui. A série mudou todos os parâmetros da TV com a proposta de falar sobre "nada". Os personagens são incríveis, e as situações hilárias, nego só se fode .. adouroo. Po teve um episódio que se passou inteiro em um estacionamento de shopping sendo que o George tava segurando uma caixa de ar-condicionado e para não ficar fake tinha UM AR- CONDICIONADO DE VERDADE DENTRO. Mas aí Jerry, falar que Friends é plágio < > (imaginem as mãozinhas do Ross para o Joey e Chandler: menos, menos).

5- Gilmore Girls - Aiii seriado mulherzinha muito bommm. Adorava os conflitos de Lorelai e Rory e sonhava em ter essa relação com Maria Luisa (minha futura filha). Queria muito ela com o Christopher mas o Luke foi me conquistando e no final não podia imaginar a Lorelai com mais ninguém.

6- Sex in The City - É difícil achar uma mulher que não ame Sex in The City. Quatro mulheres completamente diferentes dividindo os problemas de relacionamento do mundo moderno é a receita paro sucesso. Não tem coisa melhor do que sentar com as amigas e falar mal dos fdps que aparecem no caminho. Mentira até tem, encontrar um cara que manda muitooo bem na cama e compartilhar com as amaigas.

7- Friends - Caraaa Friends é Friends, por isso o número mais lindo fica com ele. Eu me envolvia tantoooo.. ligava para a minha amiga nos intervalos chorando tipo como o Joey pediu a Rachel em casamento??? O Ross tava indo com a florzinha na mão fazer isso DAMN IT! E o último episódio foi um momento muito importante também... todas as miguxas juntas comendo pizza chorando quando Ross e Rachel no último minuto do episódio ficam juntos. Depois fomos todas para night para a despedida de uma amiga que ia morar na Inglaterra. (Que dia, que fase e que after hahahahaha)

Faltou OC (gabi, não me mate).

E queria fazer um ps para as séries que são canceladas do nada. Acho uma PUTARIA isso... você começa a ver se empolga, ama e aí do nada BUM cabou se fode aí. Se for comédia você fica triste mas beleza parte para outra. Mas e quando é suspense? Rola um assasinato no meio? Porraaa eu Vi Reunion e adoreiiiiiii cada episódio era mais legal que o outro e eu não tinha nenhuma idéia de qual dos amigos tinha assassinado a menina. E aí? acabou se fode Fernanda não vai saber NUNCA! NUNCAAAAA ... eu sou geminiana, sou curiosa.. isso não se faz. Acho que o digno seria o escritor fazer um último episodio esclarecendo tudo ou enão faz um vídeo falando: olha, infelizmente a série foi cancelada mas quem matou foi o fulano tsá? Isso não é justo... Ai desabaphey.

Espero que tenham gostado porque esse post deu trabalho. Desculpem os leitores pelas "interninhas" mas é que eu me empolguei na nostalgia!! As miguxa vão amar!

Next up on my list is Deja Dead by Kathy Reichs, whose books were the inspiration behind the tv series Bones on Fox, which you may or may not know I'm obsessed with - almost as obsessed as I am with Grey's Anatomy. Almost. Okay, let's face it, I just live to be obsessed with things - from the days of Buffy, Dawsons Creek and Gilmore Girls (and the Backstreet Boys) to today with Grey's, Bones and John Mayer.

After that I'll either get on to Family Tree by Barbara Delinsky which looks wonderful or else get onto reading Pride and Prejudice for the Classics Bookclub on 5 Minutes for Books - which I'll need to read by September 2 or else risk disappointing myself utterly and entirely.

I also REALLY want to read Rumors by Anna Godberson, the follow up book to The Luxe which was just as luxurious to read as it was enticing, thrilling, and fabulous. That book just had me dying to wear some fabulous evening gown and dance the night away with a forbidden lover, who would turn out to be my husband because, well, at the end of the day, he's the only one I want to dance the night awa
