I LOVE them!

If any of you out there reading this are designers or artists looking for an outlet to sell your things online, I need to tell you about Etsy and Dawanda. They are sites where you can sell your handmade things to a european (Dawanda) and U.S/Worldwide audience (Etsy) a little like having a shop on ebay, but aimed solely at the handmade/printed market. They both get a lot of coverage in the blog world and will also make your brand more visible in Google searches should anyone be looking for you.

Etsy, as I said is U.S based and has some fantastic artisans on there, the way it works is a lot like eBay, where you pay per entry and then get your ad on there for about 6 months I think, I haven't really used my shop to it's fullest potential there yet, I always worry about putting too much online incase it all gets too much to handle, so I just have my baby hats in there for now.

I love the community feel there is on Dawanda, you can browse around other peoples stores and make pin boards of your favourite items, become a fan of an item, or just buy it -up to you! I love making pinboards and becoming a fan of things because I feel like I can show my appreciation of things I love without actually having to buy them, though often the 'add to cart' button is just too tempting!

I like the way Dawanda works, you have a shop full of items and you pay a percentage to them every sale you get, so my shop on here is well stocked!

This marks the first post for a regularly updated section called Handmade vs Massmade. It will pit two similar items against each other. One handmade, one massmade. Round one...Ding, Ding, Ding!

Both of these dresses are lovely but I think it's safe to say that one of them has the edge. Which one do you think it is? Personally, I'm leaning towards the dress from Rudy Pearl, which is handmade. The bold print colors and unique, knit detailing send it over the edge for me. I love love love texture in clothing. The name of your shop, and link? Exclusive Handcrafted Polymer Bead Jewellery http://www.vickicockcroft.etsy.com

What do you make?  I make handcrafted polymer clay beads which I set in silver plated and sterling silver fittings to create an exclusive range of jewelry.

What drives your passion/inspires you?  I am driven by my love of colour and my need to be creating something all the time.

Do you have a favorite material to work with? Why?  My business is based on my love of polymer clay.  It is so colourful, versatile and tactile to work with

What is your favorite color?  I'm never sure about this, but I do think I can 'see' blues best.

Anywhere else we can find your products?  I have been selling my jewellery for many years, through shops, galleries and fairs and they are so varied in colour and pattern that people often buy several items to match different outfits.

Cake or death?  Cake, definitely.

What is your mission?  My mission is to continue to expand my business in order to keep the animals in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

Please describe the space where you create (ie, sewing room, the forest, etc):   I have a workshop at home, looking out over a Welsh valley.

Do you have any pets or family involved in your business?  I have two daughters who are, occasionally, involved in the business and who provide their time and skills and expertise with good grace!  The sheep, lambs, chickens and cats are only involved in that I use them to 'relax' from the pressures of the business, part of which relaxation is blogging about them fairly frequently at http://www.vickicockcroft.blogspot.com 

What is your favorite of your current products?  I really don't have a favourite item, but my favourite pattern is the mixed blue which is featured here.  It is also the best selling colourway in my collection.

Anything else you’d like us to know?   I love selling my jewellery.  But the best part is when someone shows that they really love something I have made.  I have met and communicated with some very lovely people over the years.

I've just discovered a new venue for selling my pieces. It's a German based website that is very similar to Etsy. Since I want to reach out to a larger base, I thought I'd give DaWanda a try. It's been interesting learning a little bit about the Euro as I have to list my prices that way! Here's a link to a US to Euro converter you'd like to check out some of the pieces up for sale...

I was considering putting my work on etsy to see what feedback I get, but this european version allows you to pay in euros instead of dollars - I for one would feel more compfortable with this.

• Design Startup

Die Plattformen Etsy oder DaWanda werden dem ein oder anderen DIYler schon bekannt sein. Das Angebot von Ponoko geht in eine ähnliche Richtung. Im Gegensatz zu den beiden erstgenannten Unternehmen zielt Ponoko eher auf die Designer als auf die Handwerker. Man kann entweder nur seine Entwürfe verkaufen oder diese auch fertigen lassen. Was die Herstellung angeht, ist das Angebot jedoch auf lasergeschnittene Plattenware beschränkt.

Wie bei dem kürzlich schon vorgestellten Modell erhält man auch bei dieser Reihe von Hansa einen Einblick in das, was da so fließt. Die Wassertemperatur wird über farbige Beleuchtung des Wassers angezeigt.

Lovely and generous Petra of ranipink had put a lot of colour- and beautiful fabrics in it, Saris and other oriental swatches and a georgeous ribbon, which I have used to refashion an old jeans for summer. Now I have something summery to wear with my tunics. Thank you so much, Petra!

Am Donnerstag morgen kam das SRP (StoffresteReisePaket), ein Stofftauschring nähender Dawanderianerinnen (mehr dazu, wenn Stine nächste Woche da ist). Die ausgesprochen sympathische und großzügige Petra von ranipink hatte eine sehr bunte und wunderhübsche Mischung von Saris und anderen orientalischen Stoffresten hineingepackt und auch eine sehr schöne Borte, die ich für eine Sommer-Jeans-Aufwertung benutzt habe. Jetzt habe ich etwas sommerliches zu meinen Tuniken zu tragen. Ganz herzlichen Dank, Petra!
