CHAOS THEORY IN DASAVATHARAM!!!

Some guys have claimed they haven’t understood chaos theory which plays such an important part

Some guys have claimed they haven't understood chaos theory which plays such an important part in the film. So,I've decided to explain it a bit so that people can appreciate the brilliance of the film.

Q:What is Chaos?
A:Basically a chaotic system is one wherein long term predictions are impossible.Like for example,if I push a car, I know that it is going to move and it will continue to do so if I go on pushing it on and on.However,in a chaotic system, this situation cannot be predicted over a long period of time.Weather for example is a chaotic system. No matter how good your instruments are,you simply cannot predict the weather with 100% accuracy over a long term basis and forecast it.

Q:What is the butterfly effect?
A:It is the most important component of a chaotic system.Basically, small perturbations results in amplifications which completely destroys the original nature of the system and makes prediction impossible. If a butterfly flaps its wings in Africa,it could result in a cyclone in USA.(Mark the word COULD)A highly dumbed down explanation of the butterfly effect is in the film Anniyan, where Vikram's sister dies because a liquor shop owner sells liquor on a dry day.

Q:OK,how does Dasa incorporate it?
A:In essence,Dasa talks about 8 characters who are inconsequential as such, but are integrated in a larger picture.Without Bush, the plane would have been called back.Without Shinghen,Govind would be dead.Without the tsunami, the world would have been destroyed.Even Krishnaveni Patti plays a very important role.If she had not put the vial in the idol, maybe Govind would have recovered it then and there and a powerful weapon would have been unleashed. The very fact that it went into the idol meant that it was being accelrated to its destiny.Without Kaifulllah Khan,Govind would have never escaped;the list simply goes on.

Q:OK,so does the film talk about theism or atheism?
A:Neither. It talks about how humans drive the destiny of the world.

Comments awaited.

If you knew the real dasavatharams of Lord Vishnu and their characters you can appreciate the script

If you knew the real dasavatharams of Lord Vishnu and their characters you can appreciate the script more.Let me explain, starting with the best adapted role:

1. Krishna avatar - Vincent Poovaraghavan
Lord krishna is actually a dalit, he is dark-skinned [shyamalam]. He saved draupadi when she was being violated and he was the actual diplomat in mahabharatham. Lord krishna dies of an arrow striking his lower leg. Now look at how vincent was introduced.. he appears when asin is about to be molested and he saves her like draupadi. Vincent is the dalit diplomat, fights for land issue [soil issue to be exact] and dies from the metal rod striking his leg. Oh even five of vincent's men are drugged at P. Vasu's.. sounds familiar???

2. Balarama avatar - Balarama naidu
This is an easy given. as the name suggests and the role personifies you can easily get it.

3. Mathsya avatar - Ranagaraja nambi
nambi is thrown into water in an act of trying to save lord from being thrown into sea, though vainly. what more clue do you want?

4. Varaha avatar - Krishnaveni paatti
During the mukunda song, krishnaveni paatti does varaha avatar in the shadow puppetry. The frame freezes on it for a second. there is the clue. Moreover, in varaha avatar lord actually hides earth so as to protect life forms. Here too krishnaveni hides the germs - life form inside the statue so as to protect.

5. Vamana avatar - Kalifulla khan
remember in vamana avatar, lord vishnu takes the vishvaroopa, that is the giant form! Hence the giant kalifulla here symbolises vamana avatar.

6. Parasurama avatar - Christian Fletcher
Parasurama is actually on an angry killing spree and killed 21 generations of the particular kshatriya vamsa. Hence the real KILLER... Guess what thats what our Fletcher is! He comes around with the gun [modern upgrade for axe] and kills everyone around. I have to check if he kills 21 people though.

7. Narasimha avatar - Shingen Narahashi
first of all the name itself is a play on the words singam [means lion in tamil] and narasimha [the avatar being symbolised]. Lord Narasimha manifests himelf to kill the bad guy and he also teaches prahaladha. In the movie, he shows up to kill the killer fletcher! and is also a teacher.. Lord Narasimha had to kill the asura with bare hands and hence the martial arts exponent here.. get it? alifulla here symbolises vamana avatar.

8. Rama avatar - Avatar Singh
Lord Rama stands for the one man one woman maxim, kind of symbolising true love.. Here Avatar portrays that spirit by saying that he loves his woman more than anything and wants to live for her.

9. Kalki avatar - Govindaraj Ramasamy
As you know, the hero in kaliyug can be none other than the Kalki avatar!!!

10. Koorma avatar - Bush
This is the most loose adaptation I couldn't clearly comprehend. But if you look at the real koorma avatar, the lord is the turtle/tortoise that helps in stirring the ksheera sagara and bringing out the amruth. This essentially creates war among the devas and asuras. Similarly today Bush facilitates war between you know whom... May be Kamal also indicates that this avatar is a bit dumb like the tortoise...

Lots of reviews, good and bad about the movie which is intended to take Indian Cinema to greater hei

Lots of reviews, good and bad about the movie which is intended to take Indian Cinema to greater heights. Well My review earlier was just to highlight the overall feel about the movie. Let me get into a little detail here..

Plot Synopsis: Things happen in life , and do they happen for a reason? if yes, What is it? is it Co-incidence or is it some thing beyond reasoning? Can everything be related to scientific proofs? or should it be confined to certain beliefs? What about Chaos? If there are certain things, that become certain only when they happen, how is that explained ? or Can it be explained? can we attempt at explaining something that we can probably never predict to perfection?
Dasavathaaram does not attempt to answer any of these, but gives us an oppurtunity to think about it.Its our choice though.. Of course the characters share their opinions as we share ours..

The Movie : There is evil trying to take over the world. The definition of evil is universal , i think.. No body would like to appreciate what happened to Hiroshima ? so why in the first place such evils are allowed to exist? Are they allowed or do they exist ? Govind as the protagonist, a believer in co-incidence theory and his travails to end an evil episode for mankind is how the movie progresses. He has Aandal for company and she completely believes in a power beyond human as a reason for any action. So they both have belief's and may be they both mean the same. Now the question is about the evil? Did they stop it? or did it end? Who caused the evil? (Evil as an attitude, not as a thing :-))

Fletcher is the evil torch bearer. He is probably the so called Satan's protagonist. He tries every bit to make sure Govind does not succeed in his efforts. Evil (as a thing) lands in India. Coz nobody tries to stop it ,including the President Bush himself, and turn of events, Govind is now viewed as a
terrorist and Balram Naidu,a not so intelligent CBI officer starts his interrogation. So Naidu being not every intelligent allows Govind's as well as Fletcher's mission to continue.

Now the so called evil is with krishnaveni paati(who has lost her son and still unable to accept that) and she is a believer in Lord Vishnu and so is aandal. She puts the evil inside God's idol. So God now carries something which could be harmful to mankind (Basically like the Tortoise episode of Dasavathaaram- God Churns the Ocean and Shiva drinks the poison ;-)). The so called God now has the poison and Govind and Fletcher still in pursuit. Had Govind been a firm believer in God, he could have left it in there ,thinking god would take care of it; But the world has Fletcher's too :)

In the meanwhile there is a group of people who are causing harm to the Environment by smuggling sand out. Enter Boovaragavan (shown as a Dalit), who is a Social reformer standing by the rights of the oppressed people in the society. Here is where,i have to mention Nambi, a person from 12th century, who was a Firm Believer in lord Vishnu and gave his life for his belief in Vishnu (He was given a choice and he chose to stick to his belief ) .He was chained to vishnu idol, and drowned in the ocean. He gave his life for his beliefs about a Power beyond Human.
Now Boovaragavan is a person who believes in equality and he has his rivals who dislike him. Fletcher on his pursuit kills many and some people are affected due to that. One being Narahasii (a japanese guru) and he too intially mistakes Govind as the wrong doer. And Kaifulla Khan, saves Govind from Fletcher when the latter is on his killing spree to get the evil.

Also there is Avtaar singh, a popular singer, fighting Cancer and is doing his final show.In the cat and dog chase, he is shot by Fletcher.Narahasi knows that Fletcher is the real killer and saves Govind from Fletcher,Fletcher is dead, but now, evil is un leashed and no one can save India. What happens next? Is it co incidence? is it chaos?

                a. People cause harm to environment, and so there is earth quake
b. A way to end the whole chaos drama, Evil Dies and Goodness Prevails.. etc

Any of those, but the story does not end here, Boovaragavan, saves his rival's children from drowning, gets stuck( chained) to the car and drowns in the ocean. Again he stuck to his belief about equality among mankind. He gave his life for his belief. History repeating, I guess, its God's idol & Nambi then and Boovaragavan now.

Here is where krishnaveni paati identifies Boovaragavan as her son Aravumudan, despite negative feedback from her community. I guess it is upto us to see Boovaragavan as Shiva or Vishnu or just Human too , if i assume him as closer to Lord Shiva, just coz, he works for the so called "un touchables" and Shiva is supposed to work with the "kingaras" . So Krishnaveni paati calling him as her son is more meaningful depicting both shivam and vaishnavam are the same . The Make up factor is dealt really well with a subtle inner meaning here. We necessarily dont have to agree here, its just how otherwise it can be viewed.

And Avtaar is saved too, coz Fletcher shot him ..:-). Kaifulla Khan says he survived the calamity coz, god saved him. Co- incidence, Chaos, Super Power, -kamal leaves it to us. A well crafted script and for people who havent watched it yet, all the characters i have mentioned above (except Aandal) are played by Kamal...The movie probably lacks lots of other things (Especially the Screenplay) , but easily one of the best scripts of recent times. For sure the movie could have been much much better, it is a chaotic presentation of a brilliant script and may be thats what kamal's intention were... Hmmm... :-)

Who cares if Delhi and Hyderabad were battling each other at the IPL - the news of Dasa trailer bein

Who cares if Delhi and Hyderabad were battling each other at the IPL - the news of Dasa trailer being telecast in Kalaignar TV was enough to keep me awake :-) . With no telecast of Kalaignar TV here, had no option but to wait for the Trailer to be uploaded to Youtube by some kind souls and finally at about 1AM the rocking trailer was up.

The opening scenes itself was enough to create the euphoria - top notch. Coming from Devisriprasad, I was more than surprised that the BGM (one specially for the trailer I guess) was awesome. The trailer was moving so fast with so many frames, perhaps to not reveal the 10 characters, but at the same time keeping up the interest of the audience. Thanks to continuous pausing and playing in YouTube and other video tools, I have tried my best to unravel the 10 characters Kamal is playing :P

The 16th century scenes, esp the scene where Nambi and the statue are taken along in the boat (to drown in the sea perhaps) is magnificent. Tsunami scenes/the king's place etc and a lot more scenes showcase the film's class - Cinematography is Brilliant. Guess I might be soon running out of adjectives LOL. This is one movie to look forward to and in all probabilty could be THE Movie to change the way, World (forget North India - they were never a competition :P ) looks at Tamil Cinema. Especially after the collections of Sivaji and the mass reach it had, TFI needs also a movie in the calibre of Dasa to showcase its potential. Kudos to Kamal and all others for the effort put in and cannot wait for May 2nd or 3rd Weekend release of the movie.

All along during the umpteen times of watching the trailer, one thought running non-stop through my mind was 'if only ARR was associated with this'!! - Hope Marmayogi fills that void
