¿Recuerdas la primera vez que nos vimos? Un abrazo selló nuestro saludo, un beso en la mejilla marcó una posibilidad un tanto descabellada… pero por la fe que le conferí a tus manos, pensé que era oportuno soñar otra vez… ese calor se me escapa ahora que escribo, y es que tu ausencia imprime en mi alma vivísimas cicatrices que iluminan mi obscuridad…

En la incertidumbre estuve sumido durante mucho tiempo, en esos días de soledad descubrí la verdad de muchas cosas… esos días marcaron mi futuro, me hicieron ser lo que ahora soy… y es que de verdad no guardo rencor alguno contra tu persona, es más, me hallo grandemente agradecido, porque gracias a ti cambié ciertas actitudes nocivas.

Antes evocaba tu imagen a cada instante, tal vez hasta jugábamos a Romeo y Julieta en algún sueño… pero te confieso que poco a poco, desde la última vez que nos vimos, las únicas veces que logro encontrarte, es al tomar café. Tu silueta se dibuja en la superficie vaporosa de esa bebida deliciosa, ese aroma a misterio lo llevo impreso en mi memoria, todo un universo se halla contenido en una simple taza de café…

A los días perdidos aún trato de encontrarlos, no sé la razón de su abandono, ¿dónde estarán? En los estáticos textos de mis prosas, escritos pretextos a mis actitudes, creí poseer miles de cosas, pero sólo eran polvo en ataúdes… y pedí perdón por errores que nunca cometí, todo fuera a salud de tu persona… quise hacer el mundo a tu medida, eso no se consigue en media vida…

Un poco de llanto adornará este triste documento, que sea testigo de un breve tormento. Siete pares de iris presenciaron el desempeño de dos individuos en una obra titulada “Amor”, resultó ser una tragicomedia con largas horas de sopor… ¿qué hacer si se juntan una femme fatale y un casanova?

Me está doliendo un corazón que no precisamente poseo, estoy sintiendo todos sus vuelcos y acelerones… ¿dónde quedó el mío? Meditabundo vago por unas calles viejísimas, tomando el café que te comentaba, en mi taza flotas dibujada, como tímida alma en madrugada…

Esos días de amor están ausentes de las páginas de la vida, las que siempre fueron un cúmulo de posibilidades, sabrá Dios si serán realidades… los caminos que tomamos son muy distintos, pero recordemos que siempre existen las encrucijadas… ¿nos volveremos a encontrar?

IN THE WORLD OF SEQUELS, Casanova vol. 2 is in the tradition of Back to the Future Part 2, a second chapter that plunges back into the first, turning it upside down while simultaneously enriching it. The first thing you notice when opening it up is that it looks very different from vol. 1; the original’s placid green coloring has been replaced by a nearly neon blue and the artist this time around is Fabio Moon, twin brother of vol. 1’s Gabriel Bá. The bulk of the action takes place two years after the first, but writer Matt Fraction anchors the story in the events of the original. Casanova jumps happily through time and between universes, so it’s no surprise when we’re reliving scenes from the first volume or when the finale takes the cast right back to the beginning of Casanova #1.

Casanova centers on Casanova Quinn, black sheep of his father, Cornelius’ spy organization, E.M.P.I.R.E., until he’s plucked from his timeline and transplanted to another, one in which he’s the pride of E.M.P.I.R.E. and his sister, Zephyr, sides with a villainous rival organization. Vol. 1 saw Cass work as a double agent in this new timeline before eventually joining up with E.M.P.I.R.E. for real. The new storyline is more straightforward, but nonetheless establishes its offbeat tone though its central question, “When is Casanova Quinn?” Cass has gone missing and his disappearance begins to disrupt time and space, while Zephyr and her new allies, father and son science terrorists, compete with E.M.P.I.R.E. for control of the mysterious H Element.

A key structuring theme this time around, and another element that reminds me of Back to the Future Part 2, is characters’ repeated opportunities to take back actions and start again fresh. Fraction’s feelings on the matter are evident in the decision to start Casanova vol. 2 with issue #8, rather than a new #1: he clearly prefers to own his history.

In a world of time travel and dimension-hopping, this attitude might be even more crucial, and the ultimate test comes in the story’s climax, a situation in which everything from Casanova #1 onward would be undone, possibly resulting in happier circumstances for everyone. In an earlier issue, a robot character is killed under the assumption that she can simply be revived from a backup memory. Her lover recoils at the idea, since if one can take anything back, then nothing means anything. He’d prefer to feel her loss than live with her simulacrum. It’s sort of the anti-One More Day. Fraction also plays with themes of magic and misdirection, the ultimate example of which is that Cass is in plain sight all along.

The main problem with the story is in a few of the middle chapters, which feel superfluous. They don’t bring much to the story beyond more variations on the themes of the book and feel repetitive, as Zephyr and her partners go on a series of similar and straightforward missions with little genuine plot advancement. These chapters could have been more successful condensed into one.

On top of Casanova’s surprising depth and narrative density is a veneer of references to popular and trash culture, textured with a frequent use of spy and sci-fi archetypes. It’s a bit of a shortcut to characterization, but Fraction is clever in his use of these references and archetypes, never letting a joke or situation hinge on audience recognition, while adding something for the reader who is familiar with the material. Those readers who can’t match Fraction’s knowledge of spy tropes and trash culture figures are also clued in by each issue’s “back matter.” Casanova, like Warren Ellis and Ben Templesmith’s Fell, is released in Image’s Slimline format, meaning it contains 16 pages of story and 8 pages of backup material.

The interplay between Casanova’s story and its outside influences is fascinating and actually becomes part of the experience. The backup material’s other great contribution is the way it reminds us what it means to “write what you know.” If writers were to take this adage completely literally, they would only write about writers, like Aaron Sorkin (though few would do so as compellingly as Sorkin). Fraction doesn’t write overtly about himself, but he puts the process of turning his experiences, thoughts and interests into over-the-top spy action out in the open with every issue.

I’m sure that many writers include elements of their own lives and issues in work that isn’t obviously autobiographical, and Fraction has provided a window into how that process works. It’s strange to think that future readers who experience Casanova in collected form will relate to it entirely differently, as the collections do not feature this material. The story holds up without them, but they add another layer and are an exciting primer in the notion that most storytelling is autobiographical to some degree.

Fabio Moon’s art grows substantially throughout the series, both in draftsmanship and storytelling. While not as clean or fluid as Bá’s, it’s appropriately glamourous and wild. Moon doesn’t have as much opportunity to draw Cass himself as Bá did, but he makes Zephyr his own and his new characters fit into the world while looking distinct from Bá’s. He shows great design sense with the use of the single spot color, and the overall look is very attractive.

Casanova vol. 2 is another very successful outing. Though it sags in the middle and the art isn’t quite on par with vol. 1, there are several great ideas and formal tricks per chapter, and the cast is incredibly fun, even with the lack of Casanova himself through most of the story. I have no doubt the collection will be as beautiful as the first and I’ll likely pick it up, but I also recommend tracking down the individual issues and enjoying the complete package with the backup material.

Zo is er bijvoorbeeld Miss Brownie. Volledig getikt, kotgenote en beste vriendin sinds eeuwen. Naar haar vriendje wordt gerefereerd als Winnie, al even stapelgek natuurlijk. En ze maakt ook fantastische brownies, heel belangrijk.

En er is ook Little Miss Perfect, ook kotgenote en beste vriendin sinds eeuwen en nog langer eigenlijk want ik ken haar al zolang ik mij kan herinneren. Nóg kleiner dan ik en ook bijna altijd te vinden op hoge hakken. Streeft naar het perfecte leven, voor zover ze dat al niet heeft. Onofficieel verloofd met Lange Wapper.

Verder hebben we ook nog de Casanova, Easypeasy, Pluchelover, Miss Fatale, Chocoprins, Hermanita, Mr Vain, … maar daarover vertel ik later misschien meer.

Ik ga het zo missen op erasmus volgend jaar!

We stayed a while. It's fair to say we all got drunk. I remember a glass breaking. I remember trying to beg off my fourth drink and somehow finding myself downing a sixth by the end of the night.

Somewhere in the mix of baseball talk, newspaper talk and general bullshit I made a bold, gin-fueled comment: "There are only four types of men in the world," I told my two (male) drinking buddies.

Right now I can't remember why I said this, but I know there was context.

"Come on Irwin, that's bullshit," was the response.

To which I slurred: "No. I'm serious. Four types: Babes, Dreamboats, Casanovas and Vagina Boys."

I think it might have been the word "vagina" that caught everyones attention. Looking back I'm sort of mortified that I said "vagina" in the company of the owner of the paper worked for and an older, highly respected co-worker of mine.

But, from that point on I had a captive audience.

I realize it sounds marginalizing to push all men into four categories. After all, I'd probably be pissed if someone told me there were only four types of women. But, in my experience every man I've ever met fits under one of these four broad categories.

Join me after the jump for "The Babe," the first in a four part series that will explain it all -- as well as what I mean by "pseudo dating" and "sucker fucking."

(Yeah, I know it's a little lame to make you wait four posts to find out what a Vagina Boy is, but this got kind of long and I think I should break it up.)

Part 1: "The Babe"

I'm going to start with the Babe. Babes are my favorite. I've currently got one, and I've vowed never to date any other type again. Babeness is a hard to capture quality, it's innate. Just as one can not aquire grace, one can not become a Babe with practice. You are one or you aren't one

Here are some general "must-have" characteristics of the Babe:

• A babe is confident but not cocky, he exudes it and you can see it in the way he walks. I call this the Swagger. You'll know it when you see it. It's not a walk full of peacockish bravado (that territory is reserved for the Cassanova)... it's the kind of walk that when you see it you think "I bet he's a good lay." Which leads me to.

• A Babe is effortlessly good in bed. A Babe will never offer to "make love," because he understands that phrase reeks of sad desperation. (Or should I say, because it smells of Vagina Boy?) A Babe can get away with the post-coital high five. Also, a Babe always has condoms because a Babe uses them every single time. (And he remembers the date of his last STD test

• A Babe can cook, and will cook for you. I don't think this really requires me to elaborate, does it?

• A Babe can fix your car/bike/oven. And if it's hot out he can do it without his shirt on and not look like a jerk.

• A Babe is funny without trying to be, and can talk like a sleaze without sounding like an asshole. For example, a Babe can get away with saying something like, "Hey sweet tits," and can also use the word "booty" in reference to yours without making you feel like a ho. It's all in the delivery. If a guy calls you "baby" and you don't cringe, you're in the presence of a Babe.

• A Babe has hobbies beyond getting fucked up, getting people fucked up and the bar culture in general. Babes are not addicted to drugs, ever. Babes are fun to be around when you're drunk, but they're also fun when you're sober. (Or as my girl Alexis says, "When you're cold kickin' it." I don't have enough street cred to say things like that though.)

• Babes are smart, and you can tell, but they don't verbally masturbate all over your conversations. This is because a Babe has nothing to prove..

• This is because a Babe has nothing to hide. He's not going to make you listen to his tragic life story (that's VB territory right there), but he's not going to lie to you. Nor is he going to hide important things -- suck as ex wives, children, addictions -- from you.

• A Babe is well groomed (showers daily!), but not more so than you. If he spends a lot of time on elaborate costuming, wears jewelry, or owns/uses hair gel, you are in the presence of either a Casanova or a Vagina Boy.

Last year in school and it strucks you.. perfect timing..perfect situation, one man falls in love. Everything is set, everything is understood.. ppl know it.. but a major problem arises form nowhere..

what problem?

Yup. the girl isn't interested. She wants a freedom.. wants to fly like a 'free bird' in the un-ending sky.. she wants to study, she wants to be independent..without any love tangles  binding her.. she doesn't believe in love.. she is 'ambitious'.

Poor guy, no bounds to his sadness. 'NO'.. it was as simple as that. He hasn't been lucky with love charms but he din lose hope.. it was all he had.  He tried a thousand times but all his attempts turned out to be futile. He had to go through ordeals.. tough ones.. but received no responses what so ever.

He would talk to her, blink at her, take care of her..  but she was stone all over. She probably din like him or his actions.

He just couln't face rejection.. he was a supernova..Casanova..man.. why would a girl reject her..??

Was the girl already into someone?    or   Did she just hated the guy?  There are possibilities of both. I myself wonder what could be the reason. May be the readers would know ;).

Then one day..

the guy found someone else. Don't know what came to his mind.. but he really did. He seemed so happy and contented. He now, had nothing to do with the girl. He had completely forgotten her. He was now.. involved in a new being. The new girl was more like him. She laughed at his jokes, played with him and supported him. She also responded to his actions. She was just perfect for him.

But i ask you..

Had he really forgotten the previous girl..??    Was he really into the new girl..??

NO. the answer is simple..

or

it can be a YES too.

He was confused. He wanted some advice..but couldn't do so.. as he was the 'STUD' of the class.. people would make fun of him.  People would mock him. He had multiple dead ends on everyside.

The truth was..

That he wasn't in love.. it was something else.. something more complicated.. something no one can resist.

Back over to zee count-air zhey went and zee fellow went zhru zee bag to make sure every zing vas de-acteevated. Zen at zee door, zee alarm went off again! So, zhey went zhru one at zee time, and a crowd began to gazher to watch zee "fun". Eet vas starting to be quite embarrasing when zhey realized zat one of zee security tags had become attached somehow to hees shorts. So much for being all cool in zee Harley place!

Whatev-air kind of motorcycle zhey get, I vill be practicing for zee contest to see who can purr zee loudest. I zink I can put up a good fight against any engine!

So basically... Casanova Quinn is Nick Fury's sexed out/dimensionally displaced son? Um, why didn't anyone ever tell me what this book was really about? Bastards.

Muita gente quer desenhar por ser uma profissão “cool”, por acharem que e um serviço fácil, assim como acham que ser musico e algo fácil também, que da dinheiro e fama, ou porque sempre falaram ” meu filho desenha muito bem, deveria trabalhar como Mauricio de Souza” - sem desmerecer meu conterrâneo Mauricio, que ainda e um dos maiores (e mais espertos, na minha opinião) cartunistas do Brasil. Na realidade desenhista rala, e muito, tanto quanto ou ate mais que muitas profissões, se em outras você sacrifica seu cansaço físico, ou tempo a tarde com viagens de negócios, quando se desenha perde-se muito tempo, companhia, sono, e o cansaço mental se torna desgastante demais. Sem contar prazos, eu que ainda estou iniciando minha carreira, se e que assim posso chamar, já estou tendo dificuldades, pois com contas a pagar, escola, namorada família e amigos, você tendo um emprego e querendo ser quadrinista sem largar tudo pro alto, sabendo que o único tempo que tem para desenhar e a partir das 11:30 da noite, sendo que você acorda as 5:30 da manha pra ir pro serviço, fica muito difícil, mas ninguém disse que era fácil.

Faz tempo que gosto de desenhos, mas nunca havia tido coragem de me aventurar nesse universo, graças ao empurrão de muita gente, amigos etc., finalmente estou entrando nesse campo,e  não pretendo sair. Graças a dois irmãos gêmeos, nascidos aqui no Brasil, tomei muita coragem pra ir atrás, suas idéias, seus sonhos, e realizações me mostraram, em grande parte, o que e ser um quadrinista, embora eu ainda não seja um.

Recentemente  Gabriel Ba trabalhou num projeto de 6 edicoes chamada The Umbrella Academy- Apocalipse Suit. Escrita por Gerard Way, vocalista da banda My Chemical Romance (muito boa por sinal).

Enquanto seu irmão Fabio Moon, acabou terminar de ilustrar Casanova, publicada pela Image comics, a qual já teve sua primeira temporada ilustrada por seu irmão Gabriel Ba.

Os dois são artistas incomparáveis, principalmente por mostrarem que o mercado nacional de quadrinhos tem inúmeras possibilidades de vingar, sem que seja necessário criar um heróis de colante verde e amarelo com poderes que vem do Sol, ou da água de coco.

Fica ai a dica, Procurem saber, e se quiserem ser quadrinistas, SEJAM, não tentem ser apenas mais um desenhista.
