I'm going to see The Bouncing Souls and Grey Area tomorrow, and I couldn't be more excited. Last time I saw Grey Area it was their reunion at CBGB's. I was so hammered I barely remember it. Don't blame me, blame the NY Giants and Tequila. I also don't recall the last time I saw the Souls but if you grew up around NY,NJ area you have seen them 100 times. So obviously i'm super stoked on this show. In honer of that, here are a few Souls, and Grey Area jams.

Grey Area - Reminder

Grea Area - Better Man

The Bouncing Souls - Say Anything

The Bouncing Souls - 87'

I normally will not review compilations or tribute albums as it is hard to cover every single track

I normally will not review compilations or tribute albums as it is hard to cover every single track by every single band on the damn things. But when you receive this album, a tribute to the best hardcore band of all time, you have to make some sort of effort.

Its awesome hearing tons of old school Sick Of It All tracks done in the respective styles of each band covering them. I couldn't possibly get into them all but my favorite tracks on this album are: ‘Good Lookin' Out' (Bouncing Souls), ‘Friends Like You' (Kill Your Idols) and ‘Goatless' (Suicide Machines). This album showcases the most poignant songs in the legendary NYHC band's vast catalogue, and with twenty different bands covering their tunes you're bound to find a couple of tracks that knock your socks off.

This album is a perfect starting point for the new SOIA fan or the perfect companion to the already established collection of the most grizzled devotee. If you don't like this album, chances are you just don't like Sick Of it All and in that case you should probably just go hang yourself.

No, I'm kidding...don't do that; just seriously reevaluate your musical choices. This is just one more piece of evidence showing that it's Sick Of It All's world, we're just living in it.

Today is double nostalgia day. When I first heard the Bouncing Souls song “These are the quote

Today is double nostalgia day. When I first heard the Bouncing Souls song "These are the quotes from our favorite 80's movies" more than a decade ago it made me nostalgic for all of the 80s movies I had grown up watching on HBO. I was still very much a teen at the time, it came out on their 1994 release The Good, The Bad & The Argyle, so it is odd to think of being nostalgic as a teen for films made when I was a tween and pre-teen. Of course, I had also convinced myself I was a living breathing John Cusack character so it hit me especially hard.

To go back and listen to the song now makes me nostalgic for the times I would listen to the song and be nostalgic about all of the quotes. I wonder if 10 years from now I'll be nostalgic about the time I wrote a blog entry about being nostaligic about my "These are the quotes" nostalgia. My life is a redundancy.

Bouncing Souls :: These Are The Quotes From Our Favorite 80's Movies

Side note: Google thinks the Bouncing Souls might cause harm. Awesome.

MURDERER

Having Endured Years of Stomach Poking, the Pillsbury Doughboy Releases Rage via Exploding Biscuit Cans

Linda Burnett , 23, a resident of San Diego , was visiting her in-laws and while there went to a nearby supermarket to pick up some groceries.

Several people noticed her sitting in her car with the windows rolled up and with her eyes closed, with both hands behind the back of her head.

One customer who had been at the store for a while became concerned and walked over to the car. He noticed that Linda 's eyes were now open, and she looked very strange. He asked her if she was okay, and Linda replied that she'd been shot in the back of the head, and had been holding her brains in for over an hour.

The man called the paramedics, who broke into the car because the d oors were locked and Linda refused to remove her hands from her head. When they finally got in, they found that Linda had a wad of bread dough on the back of her head.

A Pillsbury biscuit canister had exploded from the heat, making a loud noise that sounded like a gunshot, and the wad of dough hit her in the back of her head.

When she reached back to find out what it was, she felt the dough and thought it was her brains. She initially passed out, but quickly recovered.

Admittedly, its difficult to review a show that you weren’t at. I’ve never attempted it

Admittedly, its difficult to review a show that you weren't at. I've never attempted it before, and I probably won't again. But that's the beauty of the internet. All you need to do is a little searching, and you can usually find everything you need.

I recently came across some live video of Face to Face's recent reunion show at Bamboozle left in Orange County. Considering the Bamboozle's reputation for angular haircuts and Jersey mall-punk, I was surprised to see such an amazing reaction by the crowd. Maybe 90s skate-punk resonates a bit more on the west coast. Wouldn't be too surprised. The band, however, looked bored as shit.

[vodpod id=ExternalVideo.504908&w=425&h=350&fv=m%3D32068965%26type%3Dvideo%26a%3D0]

After watching the video, I decided to do a bit more research and find some other video to see what I missed.

On the one hand, I missed a ton of great bands in one place at one time: Alkaline Trio, Bouncing Souls, Hot Water Music (anybody remember that tour?), Face to Face, Dillinger Escape Plan, Jimmy Eat World, The Shook Ones etc. On the other hand, I missed a ton of bands that I really don't give a shit about: Hawthorne Heights, My Chemical Romance, From First to Last, Story of the Year, The Bravery, Armor For Sleep and a million others.

Here's what I found.

The Bouncing Souls played, and the crowd didn't give a shit.

(Boulder's own ) 3oh!3 played, and started to win the crowd over.

Alkaline Trio played, and sounded way better than normally

A bunch of other bands played that I don't give a shit about, and those are the only videos I can find anywhere.

My review? I could do without it. Last year's Fun Fun Fun Fest was well worth my money and time. This just seems a little too big and bloated for me.

I learned early on that life wasn't fair. I know. I get it. It's not fair that I have the biggest butt in the family, or that I have flat feet, or that I feel like I am wasting my $35K-a-year education at my desk for 10 hours a day, but that's okay. LIFE ISN'T FAIR.

But sometimes you come across things that make you want to scream it out the window. WHY ISN'T LIFE MORE FAIR? Like when you read about your fellow classmates being more successful than you, or your stupid car's headlight goes out right when you have no time to get it fixed. You know, like WTF THIS SUCKS ARGGGHHH.

I went through these emotions the other day, when I read about a Myspace bulletin posted by The Bouncing Souls (aaaawwwesome!):

Yesterday we all enjoyed celebrating the wedding day of our good friend Frank from My Chemical Romance to his beautiful wife Jamia. It was a fine family gathering which ended up in us singing a couple of Frank’s fav Souls songs. Matt Skiba from Alkaline Trio jumped up to sing along to an acoustic version of Night On Earth. He also did 3 of his songs on acoustic. Acoustic Skiba = goosebumps.

Okay? This isn't fair. Aside from My Chemical Romance whom I could care less about, is it really necessary for the universe to let me know that a couple of my favorite bands like to hang out together and play impromptu music and basically, put on a little show AND NOT LET ME BE A PART OF IT?

Yeah, thanks. Anyone else you want to throw in there? Then Beck strolled in and announced that he was going back to his Odelay roots and doing a special rendition of all my favorite songs? Then they pulled out a giant box of Alfajores and gorged themselves on some Dulce De Leche sweetness? Then they all got together and played a couple games of Halo? What else? What else? Bring it on. I can take it!
