Eine Öffnung, die das abschließende, träumerische „You Don’t Know What You Mean To Be“ als Lullaby erst möglich macht.

Tag, Nacht, Sonne, Neonlicht, Zwielicht.

Dans of sterf

Typisch festival

Vieze vuile uilen vangen

I just got back from a long weekend in LDN, as some posh Londoners like to call their home. The o2 Wireless Festival was on for four days in Hyde Park. The spirit of the people was great and being able to walk home after a great day out at a festival was quite frankly the best of all!
This year the headliners were: Jay-Z, Morrissey, Fatboy Slim and Counting Crows.

Jay-Z played a similar set to his Glastonbury show, without the fabulous Wanderwall intro though. To be fair, I am possibly the whitest girl alive and Jay-Z was never on my preferred list of music. But he played a great set that even I could ‚bounce’ to (this sounds so wrong coming from me).

Day two saw Hyde Park filled with Morrissey fans and The Smith fanatics that still live in their beloved memories. Morrissey’s appearance is cocky as usual, but the people love it. Wandering around in a playboy shirt with his 20-something band sitting far in the back to have him take over most of the stage. He then holds a short monologue demonstrating his vegan/vegetarian lifestyle. It was something along the lines of: you eat death when eating meat. It was time for me to go.
Good show, Mr. Morrissey, I’ll give you that. But your overly slimy dramatic-ness just isn’t my thing.

Day three was the fun day of glow sticks, neon wayfarers and colourful clothes. Most of the saturday line-up where dance/indie/nuwave bands with Fatboy Slim finishing the night. I sadly was a bit late and only saw a few gigs here and there including the brilliant performance of Berlin’s own Booka Shade. Check ’em out.

http://www.bookashade.com/

The last day I spent on my way back to the pool. No Counting Crows for me.
All in all, a great weekend at an amazing city centre festival!

Have a listen to the following bands I loved at o2 wireless 2008:
Red Light Company – although I wasn’t very impressed with their haircuts at first, they are definitely pulling it off on stage!
Pete & The Pirates – English Indie Rock
Hot Chip – geeky darlings always worth watching live
Roisin Murphy – fashionable as ever with a great live performance
The Fashion – America is coming back with some great sounds
Beck – he is back and the only one that is allowed to wear Wayfarers in my eyes.
The National – I missed it but my friend said it was brilliant!
Robyn – better than expected. she blew me away.
Sam Sparro – rockin his Prince’ness.
Booka Shade – see above.

2. Der See

6. Die Bands

Franz Ferdinand, The Teenagers, Hot Chip, Fotos, Hercules And Love Affair, Editors, Adam Green und Klee um nur ein paar zu nennen.

7. Die DJs

Miss Kittin & The Hacker, Steve Bug, Sascha Funke, Henrik Schwarz, Marcus Meinhardt, Ellen Allien, Alter Ego und viele, viele mehr.

8. Booka Shade

1. Outskirts

Last.fm .

Q: You Play music in all different styles from Electro to Trance, How do you pick it?

A:Everything depends on the club, on the event and of course on what people are feeling right there and then. As at the end of the day you are the once who i am playing music for. And the most important for me is that you have the time of your life on the dance floor.

The Most Important thing is to feel peoples energy. And once you get it everyone goes nuts. Screaming, dancing, jumping and singing along! Its the most amazing feeling on earth which i would never exchange for anything.

I've also headlined with many other great artists such as Axwell, Bad Boy Bill, Josh Wink and Tommy Lee

Starting August 1-3 in Grant Park Chicago this musical, cultural community experience is a one of a kind sensory blowing must see adventure. Grant Park takes the center stage to host this massive event and provides the perfect atmosphere for this music extravaganza.

Due to the massiveness of this event tickets go fast and rooms go faster so its best to book early. I took the privilige of checking out a few places to recommend because lets face it, you were probably going to procrastinate, not get a room and end up sleeping in the Clarence Buckingham Fountain in the middle of grant Park. So without further hubba-baloo heres some good stays.

Hotel Allegro and a special deal (I love deals, especially during popular events)!
The Allegro is located a convenient 0.8 miles from Grant Park which is perfect for concert going and not having to deal with a the parking mess. A cheap cab ride or a brisk walk (or stumble) will get you where you need to be happily and safely.

Hotel Specs:
The lobby displays theatrical influences with bursts of ruby-red, burnt-orange and forest-green hues offset by granite grays and ocean blues underfoot. A baby grand piano is positioned next to a double-sided fireplace that anchors the lobby's three-story staircase. The hotel's 312 Chicago restaurant captures Old World charm with a menu dominated by family recipes that enrich contemporary Italian flavors. Encore is a lunch venue by day, but transforms into a liquid lounge with two bars by night. Cameo serves coffee, pastries and fresh fruit. The hotel hosts complimentary wine receptions every evening. Art Deco fixtures and oversized windows add interest to the hotel's 14,000 square feet of function space. Wireless Internet access is complimentary throughout the hotel.

Album of the week is no close run thing this week, with Spiritualized's Songs In A&E beating everything by some considerable distance. It's a beautiful, personal record, following Jason Pierce's brush with death back in 2005. This is the group's best since Ladies And Gentlemen..., and although it doesn't quite match the majesty of that LP, it certainly ranks higher than either of the last two records. A contender for album of the year so far. Best of the rest is Vetiver's third LP Thing Of The Past, a slice of melodic folk-rock. Not really a patch on 2006's To Find Me Gone, but still a good record. Also rocking the folky end of the spectrum this week is South London's Johnny Flynn with his debut, A Larum. Possibly the first album to contain a song after Shrek-faced scouser Wayne Rooney.

The Futurehead's third LP, This Is Not The World, is self-released after 2006's News and Tributes was perceived as a flop. This, like the last, is a solid effort though; sure there's not the spark of their debut, but good nonetheless. The Wedding Present continue their recent revival with El Rey, which I haven't heard. Eyebrows were raised when the pioneering electronic label Warp signed Maxïmo Park, those same eyebrows may well clear their respective foreheads when they hear Born Ruffians. Indie to the core, there is nothing here to distinguish them from the pack, and on this evidence Warp may be better sticking to bleeps and breaks.

The more electronic side of things is relatively sparse this week, the biggest release possibly being Booka Shade's The Sun & The Neon Light. Much noisier is Health's remix album Health//Disco, featuring remixes by Crystal Castles and other hand-picked artists. From what I've heard, the big Crystal Castles glitchfest Crimewave is the highlight. Towards the quiet side is Minilogue's double-LP release Animals, slight minimal techno fluff from Sweden. A good listen.

The final three this week are a mixed bunch, quality post-rock from Norwich's Sennen, wonderfully eclectic singer-songwritery stuff from Euro-skipping Lonely Drifter Karen, and then to round off some staid indie-rock from NME-dahlings The Pigeon Detectives.

The results from the last poll were:
1. Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip - Angles
2. Martha Wainwright - I Know You're Married But I Have Feelings Too
=3. Santogold - Santogold

One day we'll understand come promette il motto di Dissonanze...
