Sparta, aka Mean Kitty, the fiercest feline in the vlogosphere, first hit the scene in September 2007. When Cory "Mr. Safety" Williams, already a prominent YouTube vidmaker, decided to kill two birds with one stone and simultaneously document his new kitten's aggressive biting problem and his fab new pad in Sherman Oaks, he did so with a little rap called The Mean Kitty Song. The video was an instant and enormous hit, scoring more than 3.5 million views in its first two months alone. It is the number two top favorite of all time in YouTube's Pets and Animals section – second only to the jawdropping survival-of-the-fittest juggernaut Battle at Kruger. (And it's actually beaten BaK for "most discussed." Chew on that, crocodiles!)

While YouTube consumers in general do seem to just enjoy a white guy rapping (see: Bo Burnham), The Mean Kitty Song has something special to offer, both in William's clever rhymes and in Sparta's sheer adorableness. It's hard to say if it's his ridiculously sweet face or the glee with which he attacks, but either way, never has violence been so cute.

Williams was a YouTube celeb and revenue sharer for his popular sketch comedy and hilarious music stylings, but he happily broke out more Sparta-centric videos, including a backstory vlog, webisodes, and a spectacular, epic, Choose Your Own Adventure-style undertaking in which viewers hunted through 64 video choices to search Williams' apartment and "find Sparta." But he also longed to get the focus at his channel, smpfilms, back on his own stuff, and so in June of 2008, Sparta got booted from smpfilms, and took up residence under his own shingle.

And what does Sparta get out of megafame? Immortalization in cartoon tributes, interviews of his own, and – from his proud and appreciative papa – the occasional salmon steak.

Apparently Lennon's handwritten, original lyrics to "Give Peace a Chance" were sold at an auction for over 800k. The drum skin that appears on the album cover for Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band went for even more at about 1.1 million.

All that I really have to say...or ask, is why? I realize the Beatles are a legendary band, and yeah, it'd be cool to have that drum skin or those lyrics, but they're still just pieces of material. Not even decent material, cheap material like paper. Just because someone famous wrote on them the price automatically shoots up 7,272,727 times. *sigh*

Sorry my posts have had less personal chatting up front lately.  It turns out that when I'm not stuck at a desk all morning I have a lot fewer interesting things to say.

This is my mother, exactly. Maybe that's why I found this particularly hilarious, but if you have a mom anything close to this one, you'll see what I mean. Also on equal playing field is My Son is Gay.

Um, this is pure genius. And catchy. You won't stop singing it in your head.

3. The Perfect Woman
This kid is also a genius. And hysterically funny. All of his videos are great, but tied with this one is Cookout. Talent.

4. Jackie & Debra
Done by the same guy who does The Phone Call, this perfectly imitates ridiculous high school girl drama.

5. Nick Pitera singing "Bleeding Love" by Leona Lewis
I'm sure some of you have seen Nick Pitera singing Aladdin (although if you haven't, watch it here; it's insane), so this is of similar lines. But he totally rocks this song. I'm almost convinced he's better than Leona Lewis herself..

And in other less entertaining news, I had my first little "job" as part of my writing internship at Merrimack Valley Magazine. I interviewed a woman about her hosta garden, and I'll be writing the article for the upcoming issue. For my first writing/internship type gig, it's a pretty big deal, and I'm excited about it. We'll see how the article turns out...
