If you're feeling down about summer dying down, join Sepia and Seedling for their Fruits from the Farm Brunch on Sunday, Sept. 7 from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. The prix-fixe four-course menu features items made wth most likely whatever they wiped out of the remainder of summer produce.

Who needs to get hammered Friday and Saturday night when you have the whole morning to fill with that bottle buzz? From 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Sept. 6-7, enjoy $10 bottomless bloody marys and mimosas at Broadway Cellars' weekend brunch.

Or you can do both. Whatever. Kill two birds with one stone by boozin' and brunchin' at the same place. Ginger's Ale House opens bright and early Saturdays and Sundays with brunch starting as soon as 6:30 a.m. (depending on which soccer game is playing), and rounding out somewhere around 2 p.m., or when they feel like it.

Have an extra $75 laying around? The Signature Room's executive chef Patrick Sheerin is hosting another Garden Fresh Weekend on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 10:30 a.m. The program consists of shopping alongside Sheerin at the Green City Market before heading back to the Signature Room for a cooking demonstration, and, of course, eating the fruits of your labor (and maybe champagne). NOTE: If you plan on going this, I would love to be your new best friend.

Another night spent saving money, another night spent in the dark watching my favourite show. This i

Another night spent saving money, another night spent in the dark watching my favourite show. This is actually quite a lot of fun, as it reminds me exactly why I fell in lvoe with it in the first place! Quite similar to a relationship, you get bored, a bit jilted, sleep around a bit, but then they pull you back in with a romantic (errr.....romantic? well for me!) gesture, and suddenly you're reminded of exactly why you were together to begin with.

And yes, I do realise I am comparing a tv show to a partner. I have no problems with therapy, as long s I'm not the one paying for it!

So let's jump straight in with day 2 of the SN marathon....

01x04 - planes falling out of the sky...

I've always really liked this episode, mainly because we learn soemthing surprising about Dean, it's our first foray into the dmeon aspect, the first time they pull out the exorcism too (which will make it interetsing further down the line, considering how manyd emons they've been exorcising lately). I know there's been a lot of discussion regarding why Sam mainly does the exorcisms, and why they need a book for it....and it's possible this was their first one. It sounds like it, as Sam talks about finding it in the book and explaining it. Of course, now I want to go back and lsiten to it again, record it, and determine if it's the same one they sue later on, or do they learn some new ones from Bobby?

At any rate, at this moment on, I believe it's soemthing they've just learnt, which explains the book. Not really why it's Sam, unless Dean reading it caused the estrogen brigade's heads to explode.

I love Dean's expression when the plane goes down, hilariously funny! I know it's meant to be freaky, but his face....god, how hard would it be walking into work and thinking, right, i have to pretend the plane is crashing and look terrified...I'd feel ridiculous on set...

On a SQUEE note, Jensen Ackles looks so young! Right after the plane is saved and he sticks his head through the curtain, reminds me of the alec days......ah sweet, sweet alec...

i love how dean never told sam how his dad reacted to his leaving...it's something I can';t quite explain, but I just love the idea of both of them being so proud of him, of getting away from it, yet missing his immensely...obviously it's the reason why they never contacted him, they decided to let him live his life in peace. But hearing about it from Jerry how proud Daddy Dearest was, it really shocks sam who thinks his dad hated him, and dean is there with that look, the see? he doesn't hate you, he loves you......but i wonder if there's an overshadowing of the woe-is-me-i'm-not-important dean thing going on there...

dean being scared to go on the plane......awwwwww...funny little moments with the plane, it was well played, but somehow not continuous. It reminded me of my grandmother who'll pretend to be crippled and walk along the street talking about how old she is, and practically on death's door...then become distracted, walk normally, walk ahead to grab something, laugh...and then suddenly remember she's emant to be old and sickly, and cripple over, struggle to breathe and pretend she can't make the flight of stairs to her apartment. I mean, he recovers in moments, talking to her, and walking down the plane...I'd imagine he'd be mroe freaked getting up and walking around, but I don't know, I've never been terrified to fly, or travelled with someone who is...at any rate, seeing Dean freaking out is cute! Ooh, I jsut remembere,d they hark back to this in the clown episode..... "Planes crash!" "And clowns kill!" Hee...still one of my favourite exchanges...

One thing that has always irked me - what's with the talking about going to nazareth where the plane crashes, showing them driving to nazareth and the smoke (how long has that plane being on fire, by the way? And on another note, doesn't it look like demon smoke swirling around?) and then cutting back to the aftermath? What was the point of that entire scene? seriously, people! It's very early season 1, slightly jerky and I don't know, did they film a scene out there? Did they drop it, did they have some spare time and decided to film these moments? It doesn't gel well at all.

Here is where you pick up on things on a rewatch - the demon knows about sam! it knows more than we do! Which of course leads into the next episode!

01x05 - ooh the bloody mary one. Which admittedly I find to be one of the creepiest episodes, but I think that's because the bloody mary curse is so well-known. It's one I'd heard of in Australia growing up - and was actually scared of saying myself growing up! I like the fact they dot ackle various well-known myths as well as some rather obtuse ones (a wendigo or rawhead, anyone?)

Now, who didn't run straight to the mirror after watching this one and doing it themselves? I didn't die, living proof! (then again, I've never caused anyone to die either!)

Sam's nightmares, it all makes more sense now! I mean yes, at the time it made a different sense, there was that air of guilt, knowing what he knows and yet he didn't do anything, thinking they were merely random nightmares. But looking at it now, now we know the demon killed her, we know why he killed her and we know Sam gets premonitions...so we also know the first premonition he had was of jess dying, and he ignored it. naughty, naughty, naughty! Isn't it obvious I did not rewatch these episodes far into the second season? Although, admittedly, halfway through second season I did move to the other side of the planet, so I think we can safely assume it was rather difficult for me to do so.

One question they're yet to answer to this day - what was Dean's secret? did it never occur to Sam to ask? dude, if i'd been Sam, when Dean turns around and asks me to tell my secret, i'd be all, fine, but you tell me yours first! We still haven't learnt what it was! It was just...kind of there, and I'm really curious to know what other guilt he's racking up. I mean, does it have to be a secret only you know, how many people can know? Whose death is Dean feeling guilty over? Maybe he also feels guilty over Jess' death,

But i do like the subtle way they draw in sam's powers, it's gradual and mysterious and you don't really tie it in for several episodes. At this moment, you don't really understand the nightmares, don't see them as a power he has, because currently we don't have anything to tie him to ol' yellow eyes. That comes down the line. And I really love Dean's concern for his brother over the sleepless nights, the nightmares, it's wonderful.

there's some seriously dodgy bits, like hello, how many more japanese horror flicks can they rip off? the girl coming out of the reflection? i mean, creepy and all, but it's been done! Still, this one is actually a little scary, mainly because i have mirrors in my room and i kept catching the curtain flying out the window out of the corner of my eye - and it looks like someone is there, which is a teensy weensy bit scary!

Tonight will be a bonza night - I'll attempt another 2 episodes, which is Skin and Hookman I believe, And I don't think they feature very highly on my rerun lsit, so it will be itneresting to rewatch them.

But tonight I'll also be watching the new episode of Gossip Girl, so look out for that one!

Sunday rolled around and, seeing as it was a long weekend, we had a nice lazy day planned. With no errands to run or work to do, the afternoon most certainly called for some late-summer cocktails. I summoned my Maryland roots and created an Annapolitan version of one of my personal favorites.

The Bloody Maryland

I mixed the following ingredients for this drink in a cocktail shaker with a few cubes of ice.

3 ounces good quality vodka (I used Kettle One)

6 ounces V8 tomato juice (I used low sodium V8 and it didn't make a difference)

1/2 teaspoon prepared horseradish

1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce

1/4 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning

2 tablespoons lemon juice

5-6 dashes hot sauce (or to taste)

2 pinches of table salt

A few grinds from your pepper mill

Place the lid on the shaker and give it a few hearty shakes. Wet the rims of your glasses with lemon juice and dredge them in Old Bay seasoning. Fill your glasses with ice and strain your tomato juice mixture over the cubes. Garnish with a stick of celery and serve. Other garnishes could include a wedge of lemon, a skewer of olives, or a peeled and deveined shrimp. Enjoy...

A friend of a friend (or maybe just a friend, who even KNOWS these days with Facebook) introduced me to this.

And then I saw the Eater (relevant to NYC folks only) posted THIS!

One of my very favorite things about living in New York was the boozey brunch. It was weird at first -- uh, why would I drink a Bloody Mary at 11:00 in the morning? -- but then it became a deciding factor when choosing brunch places to go to. I guess I should take this a step further back and say that the concept of brunch as not a thing that you went to with your Latvian relatives at Quakertown Family Restaurant and that was not a buffet was a sort novel, delightfully bougie thing that I wholeheartedly embraced when I moved to the city.

My first apartment in the city was across the street from a (now-deceased) Mexican place called Juanita that served decent food and unlimited mimosas, blood marys, or screwdrivers for $15. Unlimited! You can barely get two drinks for $15 in this city, and that's not even beginning to consider the food. That placed closed, and I moved to Brooklyn, and I inevitably found some other brunch places that declined in quality over time (I'm talking to you, Williamsburgh Cafe). And when I moved to Greenpoint, I lived upstairs from a place that was okay but had no liquor license. Anyway, I have my go-to's now for when I'm in the city, but I am always looking for more. SO - readers - I give you Eater's brunch map! And I will add one of my own to the mix: The Sixth Ward on Orchard Street. It is quite possibly the worst kind of bar at night -- they have a Jager shot dispenser and those giant gumball machine type things that fill with beer and you can put them at your individual tables, as well as a punching bag video game that is literally, I shit you not, just a giant punching bag that you pay $1 to punch ONE TIME -- but its brunch is surprisingly good, provided your love of free mimosas and meals under $15 trumps your love of good food, because the food isn't the best by any means, but also not the worst!

If anyone has a favorite place in/near NYC, please post in the comments!

Case 4, Case 5, and the third report (divider) have been recently added to the Halloween Horror Nights website. Case 4 covers the "Creature" house while Case 5 handles Scary Tales III. The doctor's methods are becoming more inhumane and disturbing as each comes to pass. The third report heavily implies that the doctor is transforming by her mindset and shift in her voice. With the concept of Bloody Mary rumored to somehow be involved this year; I think it's safe to say that the doctor ends up developing into the myth. In other words, the creative department behind HHN (A&D) seems to be taking the concept of the myth and putting their own spin on it. Though how exactly the doctor develops into Bloody Mary is unknown at this time.

Another letter from B.S. (whose real name appears to be "Boris Shuster") was sent out to fans and gave us an outsiders perspective. Apparently the doctor runs a business and her patients seem to be disappearing. She's thin, young, and is looking a bit different lately. B.S. also mentions at the end of the letter that he plans on calling the doctor and telling her he has a particular phobia (Iatrophobia- fear of going to the doctor) in order to make an appointment and meet the doctor. Whether he'll survive the ordeal or not remains to be seen, though Ioatrophobia seems to fit in with the "Bloody Mary" house (which appears to be a medical facility). It's a possibility that B.S.'s fate will be determined with the "Bloody Mary" house case file (which could ultimately be the last one). You can read the letter by clicking here.

Two pieces of concept art were officially released to the public by Universal, which you can view by clicking here and here as well. If you happen to be wondering why B.S. has been named Boris Shuster you can view the following image taken from a location within Universal Studios by visiting the following link: Boris Shuster Private Investigations. A press release regarding the various ticket prices and discounts was released on Universal's HHN Media Website. And I'll wrap this entry up with two teaser videos released by Universal regarding HHN 2008. Roughly 42 more days to go until Horror is upon us.

So as you can see, I'm catching up on my lovely google friends today and while the last term was rather disturbing (and happens to be the most popular way to get to BabyBound as of late) this one just makes me giggle.

Dear floless,

Thank you for sending in your question. It isn't often that I get asked anything of such importance so I will certainly do my best to answer with as much detailed knowledge and professionalism as possible.

Aunt flo: Aunt flo is your period. Well, its someone's period as I am not aware of your sexual makeup or age. Seeing as the topic of womanly business tends to scare off men, boys, children, all animal forms within earshot, we awesome ladies have come up with all kinds of ways to creep it into conversation under the radar. Aunt flo, our little friend, crimson tide, monthlies, on the rag, big red, miss dot, the dreaded dragon, up on blocks, bloody mary, royal flood, the curse, TOM (time of the month), and on and on.

While Flo could be that weird aunt you have that lives far away and sends you $5 cash in a card for your birthday every year, its also pretty descriptive for what is going on down in your nether regions on a somewhat regular basis if you're a chick.

I, for one, get visits from this little bitch on a far to frequent basis these days after years and years of neglect. Its like she's making up for lost time and I'd rather we just cut our losses and move on.

I hope this helps, my sadly un urbanly educated friend. If anyone would like to add more detail, feel free.

Your friend,

Finally had a day off from work last Sunday. August is stacked with weddings. Four weddings down, four to go. What a great learning experience.

[caption id="attachment_297" align="alignnone" width="425" caption="Me and Kaboom stand at the edge of lake Michigan and watch the crashing waves.
Danialle and I started the day with some breakfast and periodicals at Beans and Bagels. After breakfast, we went home, picked up Kaboom, and took him to the dog beach to swim in the lake and run off some steam with other dogs. Lance (brother-in-law) and Coen (nephew) met us at the beach a few hours later to hang out and play in the sand. We also walked over to the nearby skate park to watch some skaters strut their stuff. Fun times.

[caption id="attachment_299" align="alignnone" width="425" caption="Danialle fulfills her daily dose of vitamin D while looking out over lake Michigan. " width="425" height="282" />[/caption]

After leaving the lake, we dropped off Kaboom and made our way over to a local bar where my sister-in-law, Jamie, works. We ate some pizza and had a drink (first drink is free on Sundays. Woot!). I've been enjoying Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy lately. Danialle had a virgin (she's prego!) Bloody Mary.

Later that evening, Danialle and I stopped by our favorite video rental store and rented Penelope, starring Christina Ricci. Great flick. It had a very Tim Burtion-ish feel to it; bright colors and fantastic cinematography. Check it out!

I have to preface our Schiller's brunch with an unfortunate tale about one of my favorite restaurants Freeman's. My girlfriend and I had went tried to go to Freeman's first and while it was a Sunday morning it wasn't super crowded and there didn't seem to be many people ahead of us. We walked in and waited a good two minutes before the host came to the front of the restaurant. "Hi, two please," is exactly what I said. The little want to be club bouncer with is shirt half open looked completely annoyed, "good morning, how are you?", "I'm fine, thank you. How long for two." The dickhead paused, let out a chuckle and seemed to pull "an hour" from out of nowhere. I left my name and we decided to move on and have brunch elsewhere. The moral of the story is that I don't give a fuck how that little shit was doing, nor do I care to wish him a good morning. I go to a restaurant to buy a meal and a median of exchange takes place, food for money. I always leave at least a 20% tip and am more than courteous to anyone in a restaurant. To possibly have to wait longer because I didn't wish this fuckface a good morning is obscene and I'm not sure I'll be returning to Freeman's (as much as I love their food) if it means supporting people like this. I must add then in the four or five other times that I've been to Freeman's the staff has been nothing but nice.

Anyway.....We decided to try out Schiller's Liquor Bar which we've never been to before (I love Pastis and Balthazar) fortunately we were seated immediately and served by an extremely helpful and friendly waitress. For cocktails my girlfriend had an alcoholic strawberry coconut egg cream (I suspect it was made with rum) and I had a bloody mary. Both drinks cost $10 and were excellent in their own rights. The egg cream was rich and potent and the bloody mary was among the spiciest I have ever had! (I love them spicy).

We shared the Balthazar bread basket ($12) which included a sugar scone, sticky bun, plain croissant and an absolutely spectacular buttery chocolate croissant. I think there were a few other items in the basket as well that I can't remember.

For entrees my girlfriend had a heart attack special (a $10 huge croque monsieur) and I had chicken paillard ($15) which was essentially a huge piece of pounded chicken breast charred and topped off with mescalin salad, cherry tomatoes, Parmesan cheese and a light vinaigrette. It was both not too filling and quite a nice brunch item you wouldn't usually find on the menu.

Unfortunately, we didn't get around to trying their famous fries (which looked delicious) but I would love to return for lunch or dinner and try out some of their cocktails. After the let down of Freeman's, Schiller's was the perfect answer.

"Assolutamente no", dice lei. "E' una mia creazione: bevi!". Eseguo.
Proprio azzurro cielo.
"Blue Lagoon", annuncia, trionfante.

Ps. Visto? Qualche avverbio, qui, c'è...

Bloody Mary, anyone?

It's the last day of vacation. Time for overkill and excess. Party now, but pack later, for we'll be on the road super-early tomorrow, with the Outer Banks in our rear-view mirror for another year.

But I don't want to think about that now. My friend just made me a Bloody Mary. Let the debauchery begin...

In 1921 Fernand "Pete" Petiot of Harry´s Bar, Paris, mixed tomato juice, vodka, salt, pepper and Worcestershire sauce.

Although tomato and vodka was already a well known combination he named his spiced version a Bloody Mary, according to some accounts after Mary Pickford, the popular screen actress.

In 1933 US Prohibition ended and the following year Petiot accepted an invitation from John Astor of the St. Regis Hotel, New York, to become head barman at its King Cole Grill.

Astor felt some people would be offended by the name Bloody Mary, so Petiot introduced the drink as a Red snapper. Prince Serge Obolensky asked him to "spiced it up a bit". Tabasco sauce was added and the result was suddenly all the rage. Petiot later circulated the recipe under its original name.

2 msr vodka

5 msr tomato juice

1|2 teaspoon lemon juice

2 dashes Worcestershire sauce

4 drops Tabasco sauce

1 pinch celery salt

1 small pinch black pepper

Shake and strain through a hawthorn strainer.

Garnish: short celery stem with leaves.

If 1 msr gold teqila is also added, this becomes a Deadly Mary.

If tequila is used in place of vodka in a Bloody Mary,t his is a Bloody Maria.

If gin is used in place of vodka in a Bloody Mary, this is known as a Red Snapper.

This is not one of my favorite religious episodes, and it could offend for more than the usual reasons (like, by taking up a stick to AA), but it should be watched because its points are well-delivered.

The episode discusses the nature and existence of miracles. A fascinating topic. Do miracles happen? Have you ever witnessed a miracle? What constitutes a miracle?

Additionally, the Pope has a really excellent line after a statue of the Virgin Mary squirts blood into his face from a special orifice. Another great conversation takes place between Stan when he confronts AA about what they told his father.

A controversial episode no doubt. What did you think?

I recently took my mother and girlfriend to Park Avenue Summer for my mother's birthday brunch. We were all disappointed.

Besides not having a cocktail list (I hate when pricey restaurants neglect cocktails) and spotty service, the food was just not that good. The price-fixe is $32 which gets one an appetizer and a main course. The table receives a rather nice bread basket that includes a sugar spiced doughnut, glazed banana bread and a summer blueberry muffin amongst other pastries. I think that this was far and away the best part of a blah meal.

My mother had a summer garden salad with a sunflower lemon vinaigrette for her appetizer and she said that it was okay but nothing special. Her main course was pancakes with rhubarb, strawberries and balsamic vinegar, it was an ample serving but rather dry and certainly not wort close to forty dollar with tip and tax.

My girlfriend had a mimosa and for her appetizer chose a sweet corn soup that the waiter completely forgot about. What was bizarre was that he put a plate down for her when me and my mother got our appetizers but then never returned. Once we finally beckoned him over he acted as if he knew he needed to bring the soup the whole time even though it came ten minutes after we had received ours. The soup was fine but again nothing to write home about. For an entree she had smoked salmon with eggs with creme fraiche, caviar and pressed potatoes. This seemed to be a very good selection.

I ordered a bloody Mary, that was well....a bloody Mary, nothing stood out about it. To start I had Maine crab, served gazpacho style with avocado ice cream, horseradish and a pickled vegetable salad. This was the best item any of us had as the presentation was original and all the flavors went perfectly with the others. My main course was the Upper East Sider which the waitress described to us as a duo of a bagel with cream cheese and lox and eggs Benedict. She neglected to mention that each were the size of a miniature chocolate chip cookie. I've never been one to complain about portion size, ever! However, this was ridiculous, especially because there was no mention of size in the description. Yes, there was some shaved truffle over the eggs Benedict and yes it was very tasty but really, the bill was one hundred and eighty dollars and I left completely starving.

Park Avenue Summer is very close to my house and the idea of a restaurant that changes it's dining room and menu with the seasons is quite appealing. But I just don't believe that you can have spotty service, minuscule portions, non-spectacular food and demand such lofty prices. Dinner entrees price well over forty dollars. Not on my dime, Park Avenue Summer

Following my post about the difficulty in tracking down a Bloody Mary, I finally secured one at Malo

Following my post about the difficulty in tracking down a Bloody Mary, I finally secured one at Maloney's bar in the Scarisbrick Hotel.

I've undervalued Maloney's in the past, tending to tip up there worse for wear in the early hours when all watering holes look the same.

My barman not only made me a first-class Bloody Mary, even letting me add my own dashes of Lea and Perrins, he did all the bottle throwing and glass juggling that marks out a true expert behind the bar.

Meanwhile, I met up with the lads, enjoyed a tour of the bars and clubs, including a return to the Wellington were things were rocking brilliantly, before ending up in the Underground.

There I was forced by a charming Polish prince to drink Jagerbombs, which consist of a small glass of energy drink (possibly Red Bull?) into which is placed a glass containing a shot of Jagermeister. I had several of these.

On leaving the club, I attempted to gain entry into the Baron's but was barred by night watchman Mr Macdonald in a very polite and professional manner.

I was feeling very down in the mouth about the insult to my honour until I travelled home in a taxi and realised, to my astonishment, that it was after 3am and I was stinko.

This Wordpress Blog is in no way a diary, as that is not on Wordpress. This is a Blog where I will discuss bands, trends, concerts i go to and fandoms... OH MY GOD Fandoms, the bitching, the ranting, the elitists and the teenagers who believe anyone a day over 19 is old and decrepit, and as such doesn't deserve to live and is not worthy of music.

With this, let me bid you good day and let's begin this journey.
