Fear is beginning to set in. Yes, I can walk the walk and talk the talk that I can do this – get pregnant, carry a child, raise them into a (hopefully) contributing and somewhat normal (really, who’s normal) member of society. I have to admit – I am freaking out. And not a little bit. A lot. Here are just a few of the things I am freaking out about (friends, if the list seems small, remember I am only talking about pregnancy here):

Being pregnant – What is going to happen? How sick will I be? How quickly will people notice? When should I tell people? And yes, I know most of the pregnancy books tell you these answers but that doesn’t necessarily help you get over the fear. I was just reading a book the other day about all of the foods I cannot eat. What if they forgot one? Are there pregnancy rules that people are just supposed to know? If there are – let me know tell – I DON’T KNOW ANY!

The months where you are really big. – There are a few months of this whole thing that are particularly scary – months 6 through 9. I see these women, waddling around, rubbing their bellies, being patient when no one on the bus or subway gives up their seat for them. A person gets really big. Again, it goes back to my other posting – how in the world does skin stretch like that? And how does one sleep? I lie awake many nights as it is – I suppose I’ll have one more reason for the darkening circles under my eyes.

Labour – I did not realize the physical changes that happen, your pelvis widens! Amazing! I struggle with the whole labour thing. Yes, I know I will have to go through it – but I’m not prepared for it. They say no one can be prepared. What I realized is, I think women (or at least some of them) forget how painful it was. I recently watched a Discovery documentary that followed several women through labour and one of them was on her third but she didn’t look any more relaxed.

Bringing the baby home – I know hospitals are kicking new moms out about as quickly as a Tim Horton’s drive-through during rush hour. But my big question is – WHAT DO I DO WITH THE BABY WHEN I GET HOME?

Breastfeeding – You mean to tell me milk will come out of my nipples? Need I say more…

Screwing the kid up – This is a lot of pressure – raising a child. I still haven’t found myself, how in the world am I supposed to raise this child. If I worry too much in front of the baby – he/she will grow into a nervous nelly; if I fret too much about my weight – he/she will have body and eating issues; if I clean too hard/too frequently – I may have an OCD child on my hands. How does one balance the insecurities we all have while ensuring they are hidden enough so we appear “normal” and “calm” in front of this impressionable child? Don’t they say the first five years are the most important? Oh boy – this kid is in trouble!

Those have to be the ones that keep me awake at night as I contemplate when the time is right to start this whole thing. Often, it feels like I am completely blowing this out of proportion – thousands of couples do this every year, why am I so different? I think it is the finality of it - the immense feeling of responsibility to give someone new everything of yourself and everything of this world. I think when my baby and my husband are on our way home from the hospital, I will tell this new person that I will do my best and warn them that I am not perfect (nor will I be) but I will try the hardest that I have ever tried and I hope some day they see that.

Ah. Saturday is back again... so you have to party. I referred to the Diesel 30th anniversary party in a previous post and you can find some more info here and there.

But tonight, I want to tell you more about what you can do before going in a club. That's important also I think! So for today, I would advise you... (it looks so much like a lecture...) just three bars which are worth visiting before going out.

First, Marie Laveau (Hornsgatan 66, T: Mariatorget). When I write about ESS @ Marie Laveau, it's in the cellar, but upstairs stands a really good bar with a nice and mixed 25+ crowd. Have a beer before to go downstairs or somewhere else!

Then, Morfar Gingko (Swedenborgsgatan 11, T: Mariatorget). This time it's in the cellar, you can listen to some good electro with Dandy Digital tonight but it's open only till 1am so you have to find something else to dance all night long.

Finally, an Hotel, Nordic Light Hotel (Vasaplan 7, T: T-centralen). Socially Hazardous are the guests and Niklas Paus will play some house or lounge music... don't know yet his program for tonight.

That's about it. You can also go in Underbara Bar, Vampire Lounge, East, Sturehof, Riche... and so on and so forth.

current music: the classic crime - just a man

Hello there. So yesterday me and my friend Valtteri (from work) went to Caribia here in Turku to see The (mighty) Hellacopters on their farewell tour "The Tour Before the Fall". Opening up for them was also swedish rock band called 'Demons', their set was quite decent and a good start for the evening. They played for about 25 minutes or so and the wait for the main act wasn't too long, thankfully. When the copters took over the stage and opened up with "Hopeless Case of a Kid in Denial" the place, including myself, blew up and for over an hour forward the place was rockin'. Some songs i remember them playing included "Carry me home", "The Devil Stole the Beat from the Lord", "Everything's on TV" and "I'm in the Band" only to mention a few. As encore they did the amazing "By the Grace of God" and "Gotta get some Action (Now!)". After the show my ears was ringing and voice gone but that's ok. I really enjoyed the show. I especially enjoyed watching Robert drumming, what an amazing rock drummer! One other aspect of the copters i love is of course the main man, Nicke, his voice is one of the best in this genre and live it sounds incredible. Nicke's guitar work is also admirable and the dual guitar solo's, greatness. (I'm sorry, this post is quite messy, just woke up and way too excited over yesterday). All in all, a great experience and a great farewell from one of the greatest rock and roll acts of today.

peace love and understanding,

A sexual pose with the battle's victor.

So as I said before, I'm writing for my school's newspaper. It's cool so far and I've had some killer opportunities. But since I'm the only staff writer over 21, I've become (kind of by default) the official beer reviewer for the paper. It's frickin' awesome! Where else do you get to paid in beer (disregarding all other newspaper writers and reviewers that are in a similar situation)? Yeah, I rock! But since I'm censored and edited at the paper, this will be my 'uncensored' version of the reviews. Partay, let's do it up...

Summer is over (finally! my fur doesn't get along with the sun's heat) and the season is starting to change to autumn. The foliage is turning to orange and browns, the smell of rotting leaves (love that aroma) will soon fill the air, the temperature is falling, and holidays like Halloween and Thanksgiving (my fav) are right around the corner. I figure there's no better time, since there is no other time, that I review a seasonal favorite: the pumpkin ale. Get pumped - it's gonna be a domestic vs. a micro. Let's get this battle started!

Now, just in case any of you care or are wondering, some of the background information I got concerning pumpkins ales came from beer advocate. It's a great site to learn about beer, check out the different styles of brews, read reviews, find tastings near you, and much more. Click to see what they have to say about pumpkin ales. (I give props to Kraig for this website find, maybe he'll be pumped that I mentioned him)

The first beer we're going to look at is the domestic. Harvest Moon, brewed by Blue Moon Brewing Company (aka Molson Coors), can be found all over the country, which makes it one of the better known pumpkin ales. Okay, now you're probably thinking, "Blue Moon?! It's gotta be decent...wahoo!" (maybe not wahoo, but you get the picture) But we have to remember: each variety/brand is different and it's always possible that this might not be as great as Blue Moon, and enjoyable imitation Hoegaarden. At first glance, it looks pretty good. The orange gold opaque color is suggestive of the season, but I'd prefer if there was some head so the aromas could be sampled much easier. After shoving my face in the glass, the only distinct smell that I could get was the meat of pumpkin, but hey, I guess that's sort of what we're looking for...right? But after the first sip, admittedly, I felt let down. all I can say about the taste is that it was like a Coors dressed up in a sexy red dress. Definitely looks good, but once you get to the goods, all you find is a better than normal tasting Coors with an ambiguous and temporary burst of spices. Overall Rating: 2/5.

Could the spices and pumpkin, the flavors I desire with all my heart/mouth, be in the micro? Punkin' Ale, brewed by Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, is native to Delaware (shows it's not totally boring there). The brownish orange ale fills the glass, which includes a frothy, pillow layer of head. But before I even tasted it, I knew this beer was the winner of this battle. Holy hops on a stick! Just after pouring it, the aromas fill the air, dance into my nostrils, and are interpreted in my brain as: "ballin'!" The smells are complimented and create a very full flavor of a spice banquet. The taste is great as the beer is clearly bodied: pumpkin, good ale with some hops, and finally the "banquet" (nutmeg, brown sugar, and cinnamon each distinguishable) slide down into my stomach. Overall rating: 4/5.

When it comes down to it, individually bought, they were priced less than 50 cents apart. Morale of the story: go micro, it's hard to go wrong, especially with something like a specialty/seasonal beer. Next week's beer: Aventinus.

Proverbs 8

Listen to Wisdom

Wisdom calls to you like someone shouting;
understanding raises her voice.
On the hilltops along the road
and at the crossroads, she stands calling.
Beside the city gates,
at the entrances into the city, she calls out:
Listen, everyone, I'm calling out to you;
I am shouting to all people.
You who are uneducated, seek wisdom.
You who are foolish, get understanding.
Listen, because I have important things to say,
and what I tell you is right.
What I say is true,
I refuse to speak evil.
Everything I say is honest;
nothing I say is crooked or false.
People with good sense know what I say is true;
and those with knowledge know my words are right.
Choose my teachings instead of silver,
and knowledge rather than the finest gold.
Wisdom is more precious than rubies.
Nothing you could want is equal to it.

"I am wisdom, and I have good judgment.
I also have knowledge and good sense.
If you respect the Lord, you will also hate evil.
I hate pride and bragging,
evil ways and lies.
I have good sense and advice,
I help kings to govern
and rulers to make fair laws.
Princes use me to lead,
and so do all important people who judge fairly.
I love those who love me,
and those who seek me find me.
Riches and honor are mine to give.
So are wealth and lasting success.
What I give is better than the finest gold,
better than the purest silver.
I do what is right
and follow the path of justice.
I give wealth to those who love me,
filling their houses with treasures.

"I, wisdom, was with the Lord when he began his work,
long before he made anything else.
I was created in the very beginning,
even before the world began.
I was born before there were oceans,
or springs overflowing with water,
before the hills were there,
before the mountains were put in place.
God had not made the earth or fields,
not even the first dust of the earth.
I was there when God put the skies in place,
when he stretched the horizon over the oceans,
when he made the clouds above
and put the deep underground springs in place.
I was there when he ordered the sea
not to go beyond the borders he had set.
I was there when he laid the earth's foundation.
I was like a child by his side.
I was delighted every day,
enjoying his presence all the time,
enjoying the whole world,
and delighted with all its people.

"Now, my children, listen to me,
because those who follow my ways are happy.
Listen to my teaching, and you will be wise;
do not ignore it.
Happy are those who listen to me,
watching at my door every day,
waiting at my open doorway.
Those who find me find life,
and the Lord will be pleased with them.
Those who do not find me hurt themselves.
Those who hate me love death."

Todas as demais planilhas deste arquivo ficarão ocultas.

Mãos a obra então.

Pressione ALT+F11 e abra o ambiente VBA.

Na janela do projeto, clique duas vezes no objeto Workbook (EstaPasta_de_trabalho) para exibir a janela de código referente a esta Pasta de Trabalho. Digite assim:

Private Sub Workbook_BeforeClose(Cancel As Boolean)

ThisWorkbook.Unprotect "setores" 'Desprotege a pasta de trabalho

Call RedefinirPlanilhas("Finalizar") 'Chama a rotina para ocultar as planilhas

'e carregar a combobox

ThisWorkbook.Protect Structure:=True, Windows:=False, Password:="setores"  'Protege a pasta

'de trabalho, novamente

ThisWorkbook.Save

End Sub

Private Sub Workbook_Open()

'Carregar ComboBox dos Setores

ThisWorkbook.Unprotect "setores" 'Desprotege a pasta de trabalho

Call RedefinirPlanilhas("Iniciar") 'Chama a rotina para ocultar as planilhas

'e carregar a combobox

ThisWorkbook.Protect Structure:=True, Windows:=False, Password:="setores"  'Protege a pasta

'de trabalho, novamente

End Sub

Agora, abra uma janela de código para a planilha "Menu Principal", também com um duplo clique no objeto referente a essa planilha no VBAProject. Aberta a janela, escreva:

Private Sub cboSetores_Change()
Dim PlanEscolhida As String

PlanEscolhida = cboSetores.Text

ThisWorkbook.Unprotect "setores" 'Desprotege a pasta de trabalho

Call RedefinirPlanilhas("Selecionar") 'Chama a rotina para ocultar as planilhas
'e carregar a combobox

Sheets(PlanEscolhida).Visible = True 'Reexibe a planilha escolhida
Sheets(PlanEscolhida).Select 'Torna a planilha ativa
ThisWorkbook.Protect Structure:=True, Windows:=False, Password:="setores"  'Protege a pasta
'de trabalho, novamente

End Sub

Podemos, nesse momento, criar um módulo. Menu Inserir > Módulo. E escreva o código abaixo.

Sub RedefinirPlanilhas(ByVal Opção As String)

'Percorre todas as planilhas
For Each plan In ThisWorkbook.Worksheets

'Exclui a planilha "menu principal" das ações executadas
If Not plan.Name Like "Menu Principal" Then

If Opção = "Iniciar" Then
'Adiciona como item da combobox
Sheets("Menu Principal").cboSetores.AddItem plan.Name
End If

'oculta a planilha
plan.Visible = False

End If

Next

End Sub

Salve o arquivo e feche-o. Abra novamente e teste os resultados.

Hold onto your hats, boils and ghouls, it’s time for Alex’s top 5 picks for October movi

Hold onto your hats, boils and ghouls, it's time for Alex's top 5 picks for October movie viewing. Some are safe, comfortable picks you may see coming, and some may throw you for a major loop. Enjoy kiddies.

In no particular order:

[caption id="attachment_244" align="aligncenter" width="204" caption="Classic. Nothing like a full moon and a headless horsemen to get me in the mood."][/caption]

Tim Burton's legacy will always be tainted by the few stinkers he's done, especially as of late, but I can't hate the man because he's having a bad streak. Sleepy hollow is an effective little horror period piece that faithfully retells the legend, while spicing things up just enough to make it feel hip and modern. Add some great use of clever humor, as rock solid cast, brutal and gory death scenes, and Christopher Walken as the Headless Horsemen, and you have yourselves a winner.

[caption id="attachment_245" align="aligncenter" width="209" caption="Look at that hard drawn cover art. Can't beat that with a stick."][/caption]

The Witches, from the brilliant writing mind of Roald Dahl, is an often forgotten spooky movie that is intended for kids, but comes with a heaping helping of adult size fun and scares. Incredible make up and effects litter this film, as does a cute story about a boy turned into a mouse who must stop the evil Witches from taking over the world. A sleeper hit no doubt, and one you probably haven't heard of or never paid much mind to, seeing as the audience it's geared towards. Take a chance on this one to mix things up this October.

[caption id="attachment_246" align="aligncenter" width="209" caption="The mask looks even better in the movie."][/caption]

Another sleeper gem that most would overlook due to an overly cheesy cover art and no real hype at it's time of release, this fun little slasher takes place on Halloween, and has a few interesting gimmicks and noble ideas that makes things more interesting than your average slasher. The well-placed dark humor and twisted nature of the whole tale more than make up for it's other shortcomings. If you think you've seen every Halloween based slasher flick, pick this up. It might be more entertaining than you think, even for the diehards.

[caption id="attachment_247" align="aligncenter" width="203" caption="Yeah. This still kicks so much ass its not even funny."][/caption]

Call it nostalgia. Call it being a Tim Burton Fan boy. I call it a masterpiece of animated cinema, one of the best holiday themed movies ever made, and Tim Burton's crowning achievement. Nothing will ever eclipse this, even when people try to enhance with updated soundtracks and 3-d glasses. I'm begging for the hate mail to come pouring in now, and I may even lose the trust of my co-writer here on Midnight Showing Ronnie, but I still feel as much love and devotion to this film as i did 15 years ago. A masterpiece.

AS IF YOU DIDN'T SEE THIS ONE COMING...

[caption id="attachment_248" align="aligncenter" width="200" caption="All hail."][/caption]

THE Halloween movie to end all Halloween movies. John Carpenter's timeless classic is the epitome of how to create tension, atmosphere, and intrigue with simple pieces. Most don't even realize that some of the movie is simply shots of interiors and exteriors of houses and neighborhoods, with just the theme laid over top of them. That's how genius it is. He takes a dark stairwell and makes it terrifying. Combine that with some shots through wide screen and other strange lenses to give it a surreal feel, the most memorable killer of all time, and the emergence of Jamie Lee Curtis as the "door next girl babysitter" and you have one for the ages. Who would've thought one of the most recognized movies in the history of horror cinema would be as tame and bloodless as this flick?

We hope you enjoyed our picks for the Top 5 Halloween flicks this year, and stay tuned for more themed content coming throughout the month of October.

Sleep tight and remember, the killer about to call you is already in your house.

This is the view from our front door. Eventually we'll pave the entire front as I HATE the concrete part of the drive. It is a shared drive with our next door neighbor...so we'll consult with them on this.

This is the entrance way and staircase. We will change the flooring and the carpeting on the stairway as well as probably put in new railing as we're not huge fans of what is up currently. But for the time being it's fine.

This is the bay window in the library, which is the first room you enter on the left. We'll be getting new carpeting and also put in a new fireplace (gas fire) as the current one doesn't work well. As you can see below, the surround for the fireplace is fine, so we'll keep that. We will most likely put in bookshelves on either side of the fireplace in the same dark wood. And paint the walls...maybe a red or orange colour?

This is the fireplace in the living room. As the room is small, we may get rid of it...but if not, then we'll definitely replace it totally as it's not attractive at all! We'll be putting bamboo flooring in this room and use a rug to soften it up.

This part of the extension will be the dining area. We will replace the current door & windows with french doors to open up to the garden (back yard). We'll have tiles on the floor of the kitchen/diner.

This is the current kitchen (yuck!) and the extension. We'll be turning this galley kitchen into a downstairs loo, put in a wall and make the other part into the laundry room. The extension will turn into a kitchen/diner. We plan on putting in underfloor heating under the tiles. Mmmm...warm flooring!

The upstairs bathroom. Not the greatest tiles, use of space or other stuff. We'll totally re-do it. Totally. Can't wait!

This is the master bedroom. It will need new carpet and we'll have to put in new closets. The same will apply to the second bedroom.

This is the loft conversion. The one room we won't touch right now. Eventually we'd like to redo the loft conversion to make it bigger & nicer, with an ensuite shower room and thus make it into our master bedroom. We'll have to save a lot more money to do that.

We'll be painting EVERYTHING in the house. It's gonna be a lot of work overall, but it will be worth it! Stay tuned!

(a poem for James P.)

Been had death on my mind
For some time now
So I thought I’d bring it before me
And take a stroll through our
Somber cemetery of silent soldiers
Our national place for rest

And today was a perfect day for it
A perfect day for thinking death
For somewhere on that loop of 695
I see firefighters standing
On top of their trucks
Up above on the overpass
Them and beckoning flags in silhouette
Never seen that before
And then troopers blocking onramps
And then an amazing amazing amazing
Massive swarm of brilliant flashing lights
From every emergency vehicle imagined
Coming toward me like
A global emergency response
For the death of the end of the world
Then militaristic motorcycles zipping by
Zip zip zip zip zip zip zip zip zip zip zip zip
One right after another zip zip zip zip zip
I never even noticed the hearse
But surely it too passed me by

Yesterday my daughter tells me
Her friend died from an overdose
The news numbs me and I tell her
That he's always stayed tucked away
In my psyche for some reason...almost
As if I was expecting to hear that his art
Has exploded on the scene
And that he made it through
But this is a mad strange world
And he was able to give it
A mere 7947072000 seconds
Which is both nothing and everything
In the eternal expanse of time

The national cemetery never ceases
To hush and humble me
The beauty in death
Yet as I occasionally read
The eclectic names
Stamped on tombstones
Wigglesworth
Curts
Baldwin
Musmanno
Sanchez
Eichelberger
Motherswell
Dimitriou
Fabellon
I can’t help thinking that
At least some of them
Too must have led
Lives addicted
Lives pained and troubled
Incomplete
Yet because of the ways of the world
And the ways of war
They were able to survive long enough
To die in a way that glorifies their death
And provides such a beautiful place to rest

Been had death on my mind
For some time now

The new Maserati Quattroporte has made its international debut at the Paris Motor Show today, just days before it is unveiled locally at the Australian International Motor Show alongside the GranTurismo.

The Quattroporte has long epitomised the concept of “Sport Luxury Saloon”, a trend only now being followed by rivals such as Porsche, Aston Martin and now Lamborghini.

The Paris line-up mirrors the brands presence for Sydney, with both the standard 4.2-litre and S 4.7-litre variants on display.

Both models are equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission developed in partnership with ZF.

Following the GranTurismo, the Quattroporte features a new grille with vertical slats while the front and rear light clusters now incorporate LED technology.

The local debut of the GranTurismo S within the next week will also be an Australian first with the new model boasting a 323kW V8 4.7-litre engine capable of 7100 rpm.

The sprint from zero to 100km/h takes just 4.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 295km/h.

With a more than six decade connection to the Pininfarina brand, Maserati will also honour the legend of Andrea Pininfarina who passed away earlier this year.
