Interesting interactive website with which you can determine when your first name was popular (if ever!).

For me (clearly a "classic" name): Stuart

For my wife (clearly a "contemporary" favorite): Fiona

Everyones:

Go here to find out What your name popularity is!

Disturbingly, a lot of people call there child "Jesus"...and there seem to be a lot of people assuming rather too quickly in recent times that their child is the second coming....tools!

You can tell this system is accurate, as the results below prove:

Barry - certainly a name for a dick / tool.

Trevor - certainly a name for a bit of a prick.

Yesterday baby John hadn't been moving the usual way he had been in the past few days. His punches and kicks had subsided quite a bit. My doctor has me counting 10 kicks within two hours each night. A few nights ago, there weren't really kicks but subtle movements. I remember the doctor telling me to call if I ever didn't feel much going on.

This is strange, I thought. I told Jeremiah and he got a little worried as well so we called my doctor. The doctor said he didn't think anything was wrong and not to panic, but to come in anyway and get a biophysical exam. Jeremiah was quiet and thinking about things the whole time as we waited. He was so nervous.

They did an ultrasound and he was moving and I caught another glimpse of his precious little face. He had grown and matured so much. I really fell in love getting to see him again and everything was absolutely perfect with little John. The doctor said his movements will change now as he is running out of room and that his head has dropped into position, so the movements may different now as well. We were very thankful to hear this. My doctor also told me he would have been mad if I didn't call about it. I was glad about that too because I didn't just want to go in to go in for nothing.

So we are at ease now and if anything, we are more excited for John to enter the world in approx. two months. I also forgot to officially post that we are naming our baby, John. He has been named after Jeremiah's father. Life was pretty hard at times for Jeremiah growing up due to several things, but he wanted his dad to know that despite anything, he loves him and there is favor towards him. We chose to honor his name in this way. We are also delighted that the name John is strong and is a biblical name. Samuel comes from the fact that we liked the way it flowed and that it's like my name: Sam-antha.

the meaning of JOHN- Hebrew for "God is Gracious" SAMUEL- Hebrew for "God heard" ; "requested of God"

蔡哲宇 (Chua Zhe Yu)

蔡哲宇 (Chua Zhe Yu)
We took sometime in choosing his Chinese name because I was using this Chinese name generator and calculations on certain names just did not churn out the 'character' or 'good life' I desire for him. There were also restrictions on certain chinese characters for the Mouse Year so there was only limited nice characters to choose from.

I didn't believe in name calculating at first and was just thinking to choose something that I like and sound nice. However, after using this online site and inputing our names, I found the description of my life and some others quite accurate. So I thought, if Darius could have a good name that would give him success in life, why not? If it turns out true, then good for him. If it's false, there's no harm done too.

So this was what was calculated for him:

笔画分别是：17(木) 12(火) 6(土)
　　天格.人格.地格.总格.外格数分别：18(金) 29(水） 18(金） 35(土） 7(金）
　　总评数理得分：86 分 （吉）

Many choices that I wanted generated 'unlucky' numbers or poor character/life readings. Hence it was with great effort that I finally found what I wanted for him.

After going through several name tests, I decided that number 29 for 人格数理 (又称主格，是姓名的中心点，主管人一生命运) which influences his character and life, is the best character I would want for him to have. And to get that, only certain middle name character combine with his surname would generate this number. So I found

哲 [zhé] Basic meaning: philosophy/wise;sagacious

----智谋优秀，财力归集，名闻海内，成就大业。 (吉)
个性聪明而性情坦然，做事努力且忍耐力强 ( wise, confident, hardworking and tolerant). 其活动力强，社交广，有如浩荡之波，生性好动。(active, sociable)

Then I have to choose his last character that would sound nice with his surname and middle character, AND also produce this number '898', so this was found:

宇 [yǔ] Basic meaning: space; universe; world

天、人、地三才 8 9 8（金水金）which influences health and life：
Character (translated): Has strong will, generous, tolerant of others, quick-witted, adaptable, sensitive judgement, has talent in entrepreneurship, with patience he will be successful.
Career: With his talent and desire to strive, he will be able to carve a successful career.
Family: Peaceful, will have the support of his wife, lots of family fortune.
Marriage: He will marry a good virtuous wife and have a blissful marriage.
Kids: His kids will grow up successful and respect the parents.
Social: He is quite likeable by others, sociable, clever and quick-witted. Able to gain people's recognition and advance far in life.

so basically, we want him to be wise and have knowledge as vast as the universe.

Of his Christian name: We shortlisted a few and Vincent picked this out which I also agreed.

Darius

Pronounce as:DAY-ree-us
Meaning:

1.It is of medo-persian and Greek origin, and its meaning is “he possesses; rich, kingly“. Possibly a royal title, like Caesar.
2.He that informs himself (Biblical origin)
3. Upholder of the Good

Again, it's of knowledge and possession of riches, success. Of course, name is just something we picked for him. Whether in the future he will be successful will really depend on himself and how we educate him. Nevertheless we hoped that both the Christian name and Chinese name will give him a bright future ahead. ^_~

It has been a few days since I had anything to add... well, actually. I could have added something every day, but it would have been a bunch of the same... the same being queasy, tired, moody, but happy me waiting anxiously for my first appointment with the OB.

Day after tomorrow, D and I get to see our little speck for the first time. We go for the whole nurse talk, blood test, ultrasound thing, and will get to see if we are right about when we made this baby! Yes, yes, it is already "real" to us... but seeing the ultrasound and hearing the doc say it all looks good is what will set our world to singing right now... because knowing and believing are having a hard time getting along - shock, it's all shock...

This week begins our (should be) 8th week. We have our names (oh how cute, they did that already) but just picked the boy one today... even though we thought we could not have kids, we have had the girl name we loved for about 3 years now, so that was easy... and no, not sharing either yet. Namely 'cause when my folks heard what the girl name would be they were not the kindest to our choice... but it is our choice, so there ... ... ok, so I can not help myself... Cheza Tsume Rose for a girl and Corinth Alexander Rose for a boy.

Will spill more beans when there are more beans to spill, so... see ya sometime after the appointment on Tuesday!

Yesterday was my little cousin Rob’s wedding. He took Suzie Van Hal of Yuba City, CA to be hi

Yesterday was my little cousin Rob's wedding. He took Suzie Van Hal of Yuba City, CA to be his lawfully wedded wife. My hat goes off to Mr. and Mrs. Robbie Breunig. I have no doubt that they will cherish each other the rest of their days. It was a memorable wedding and it got me thinking about what mine might be like. I think I want to get married in a Gothic stone church that has a big courtyard. Mark would be my best man and my ushers would be either a few cousins or maybe some future buddies that I don't have yet. My tux of course would be dashing, and for our reception I'd ask my friends in The Invite to perform some slow songs. The rest of the music would be played by a DJ, which would be personally selected by my future wife and I. Songs that I pick will probably include:

Coldplay - Fix You
Goo Goo Dolls - Iris
The Fray - Look After You

Good musical taste is a requirement for my future wife. That's not to say she can't have different musical taste; God knows what I say isn't the be-all, end-all, though that would be nice...

Rob and Suzie had a dessert reception. No dinner, we skipped it and went right to dessert. They had an ice cream bar with every topping imaginable. I think for my wedding I want to have an ice cream cake, either that or the cake will just have to be really damn good. At the tables there'll be disposable cameras and some other wedding favor that'll have some significance to my future wife. And while I can't dance, I want to learn a fancy dance and rehearse it so the girl I marry will know how much she means to me. Now my wedding is probably a long way off; unless some irresistable angel proposes to me I don't plan on asking any girl to take my hand in marriage anytime soon. I've only been in love once and I'm not even dating anyone currently. But still, it's fun to think about. I even think about baby names every once in a while. I'm already 25. I think by this age I had wanted to be married.

Well Rob beat me to it, and I wish him all the luck in the world. Shite, I don't even know where he went on his honeymoon... Anyway, here are some pictures from the wedding. The good looking kiddos are my first cousins once removed. They are excellent ballroom dancers.

Michael Phelps won his eighth gold medal in the Olympics. That guy is absolutely insane.

Everyone is pregnant except for me. Even f'ing Bella Swan.

And come on - Renee and Esme = Renesmee? Stephanie Meyer is so Mormon it isn't even funny. Not to mention the wedding at 18, no premarital sex and the baby conceived on the honeymoon. Premarital sex kills y'all. Maybe Jamie Lynn should have read the Twilight series before shacking up with her boyfriend at 16.

I was surprised that I didn't find Renesmee in the Utah Baby Namer. "Utah Baby Namer" is a polite way to say LDS Baby Namer.

There is Renette though - which I guess is Renee and Arnette (fake also).

And Rellinie - I don't know what that is made up of but whatever it is its totally fake. It reminds me of Bellini but I'm pretty sure that a Utahn would not use a refreshing peach alcoholic beverage for half of their baby's name.

Renel is maybe my favorite. Thats almost renal failure but not quite.

Whats your favorite name from the Utah Baby Namer? If you come up with a good one maybe I'll use it for my future spawn.

As the birth of Lil’ Chuckie approaches Joe and I have been having a lot more conversations about

As the birth of Lil’ Chuckie approaches Joe and I have been having a lot more conversations about baby names. Although we have not found out the sex of the baby, for some unknown reason, (and due to many, many wives tales) Joe and I think it’s a boy. Of course, we easily chose the perfect girl name and are completely lost on boy names. Why are boy names more difficult? It seems there is more leeway with girl names, girls can have boy names and it still sounds cute. But for some reason you have to be careful with boy names.

The other major challenge we face in naming Baby G is of course our last name…Guglielmino. Now, my husband will tell you it is the most beautiful name in the world and I should be proud to have it, and I am (in the sense that I am proud to be married to him!) But, Guglielmino doesn’t really roll off the tongue and I fear for my poor child’s future and the number of times he/she will have to spend countless hours spelling it out for people… G-u-g, no that’s another g….

So, when selecting a first name we need to be careful to not make it so long that Baby G won’t learn to spell it till the 8th grade. We also want it to flow nicely with Guglielmino, an obviously Italian (Sicilian to be exact) name. We’ve decided to focus on Italian first names. Joe’s obsession with Italian film makers of the 50’s and 60’s have been an inspiration to us. Michelangelo, Marcelo…you get the idea. Now here is the challenge, you know nicknames will be made and you need to like the nickname as much as the full name. Michael…no too common. Marc…yuk! So those are out.

Last night we were eating at our favorite neighborhood sushi restaurant (no I didn’t eat raw fish) named Kinoya. I have been frequenting our little spot since I was newly pregnant and the staff and owners have sort of adopted Baby G as their own. Baby G has officially been named the First Kinoya Baby. So what about Kinoya for a name? Too confusing to have a Japanese first name and then Italian last name?

To complicate matters even more, and don’t think I forgot about this, we have to take into account family names and meaning. The girl name is a combination of my Italian grandmother and Joe’s Italian grandmother…perfect! But on both sides of our Italian families, the boy names aren’t so great…Carmelo, Fiori!

Alas, we are without a boy name, so I am here in internet land seeing if anyone has any great ideas? Adios!

G

Swiped from Dawn.

Who named your child?

Akiva: Bill and I named him, based on lengthy discussions.

Gideon: I named him on the fly, and Bill agreed to it. Twice.

What did you name him/her?

Akiva: Akiva Jonathan Parker

Gideon: Gideon Avram Jeremiah

When did you come up with the name?

Akiva: A few weeks before he was born we finalized the choices. (If he'd been a girl, his name would have been Gracie Miriam Flora.)

Gideon: The day after he was born. He had a starter name for the first day but it didn't stick. (If he'd been a girl, I have no idea what he'd have been named.)

Where were you when you came up with the name?

Akiva: I was in the purple couch room upstairs in my house, talking to my mom on the telephone.

Gideon: I was in the maternity ward at Cambridge Hospital.

Why did you pick that name?

Akiva: My family has a strong tradition of naming new babies after deceased loved ones. So strong a tradition that by the time Akiva was born, the boy names had been picked over quite well. We were the last to have children, so he'd been preceded by seven other cousins, five of whom were male. I wanted to follow in the tradition, though, so I started digging around. I asked my parents what their parents' Hebrew names had been. On my father's side, the Hebrew name and everyday name (male) were the same, Chaim. On my mother's side, it was Clifford in daily life and Akiva in ritual life. When my mother told me her father's name had been Akiva, tears came to my eyes and I knew I'd found my baby's (boy) name. The Jonathan is in honor of my husband's father John. And Parker is in honor of my dear teacher and friend, Glenn Parker, whose memory still inspires my singing.

Gideon: Well, I liked the sound of it.

No seriously. As his birth approached, we had a piece of paper on the kitchen counter, and every time either of us thought of a name we liked, we'd write it there. Some of the other contenders were Ezekiel, Josiah, Shimon, Ezra, Yehuda. You get the idea. I like a name that strongly identifies as Jewish. When Gideon first arrived (you remember he came suddenly and a little ahead of when we were ready!), Avram was the name that was most in favor on our list. I didn't know what else to do, so I named him Avram. Still couldn't figure out the middle names, but I was trying my damnedest to call him Avram, even Avi. After a day, though, I realized Avram just wasn't his name. When Bill and Akiva came in the morning after Gideon's birth, after going home to shower and eat, I blurted out, "I don't think his name is Avram. I think his name is Gideon." Bill mumbled something that sounded like acquiescence, and that was the end of that.

There is only mild family significance to the name, in that my father had an Uncle Avram, whom I met late in his life. He'd fled the Holocaust to Australia and remained there for his whole adult life. In his 60s or 70s, he and his wife Fera made a trip around the world, to see all the places and people they'd missed. They stopped in Michigan to see my father's young family and spend a few nights with us. They arrived in the winter and I'll never forget Avram's response to seeing snow. I seem to recall that he hadn't seen snow since his youth in Poland. (Can that be possible?) Anyway as soon as we got them home from the airport, we all went outside to build a snowman together. Somewhere my parents have the pictures: two Holocaust survivors, two little girls, and a snowman, huddled together and giggling in the Michigan suburbs.

During the Cabbage Patch Kid craze of ‘83, my mother went to great lengths to secure her darli

During the Cabbage Patch Kid craze of '83, my mother went to great lengths to secure her darling daughters said dolls--illicit deals in dark Burger King parking lots in the dead of night, etc. My CPK came with the name Marilyn Elise, which I changed post haste. My 9-year-old self renamed her Felicia Faye--a name I thought was uber-chic.

Husban-dito and I live 'kid-free' over here at the 'Amish' Beach House, but if someone left a kid on our doorstep or something, what would I name it? Better yet--if someone left twin children, a boy and a girl, what would I name them?

I realize that many people today are creative with their kids' names--I work in a school and get to witness the originality of parents on a daily basis. I'm not really down with the contemporary-type names myself; I prefer ethnic and/or classic names.

I'm from a long line of crazy Italians and love names like Dominick, Vincenzo, and the like. But could I saddle my imaginary kid with such a old-school, Italian name? My last name is Italian, so it would flow better than say Dominick Lorenzo O'Malley.

Here are some of my favorite fake baby names:

Juliette, Anna, Charlotte, Antonina

Dominick, Vincent, Dante, Michael

So, what would you name the twin babies if they were dropped off on your porch?

PS. I'm not really pregnant.

PPS. If I was, I'd Fed-Ex you the baby.

Article from Reuters London edited by myself
Traditional English baby names like Ruby, Olivia and J

Article from Reuters London edited by myself

Traditional English baby names like Ruby, Olivia and Joshua may have enjoyed a revival in recent years, but many old favourites stubbornly refuse to come back into fashion.

Research for a baby Web site has listed the once-popular British names that have suffered the most spectacular fall from grace over the last 100 years.

Top of the boys' list was Norman, which has seen a 99.85 percent decline in popularity since 1907. The name, which means "north man" in Old German, grew in popularity after the Norman conquest in 1066.

Walter and Percy came second and third on the list of endangered names.

But to be honest when you think of them names, what do you think?

OLD MAN

The biggest faller among the girls was Gertrude, derived from the Old German for "spear maiden." Edna, Ethel, Irene and Elsie also made the top 10.

Again ditto for these names....

But the survey found that not all names are vulnerable to changing tastes.

Thomas, last year's second most popular boy's name, has been in the top five for at least the last 200 years. William has also been in the top 10 for two centuries.

For girls, Elizabeth has been among the favourites for at least 200 years.

Other names have enjoyed a revival under a different guise.

Olive, number seven on the list of declining names, has a direct descendant in Olivia, third most popular last year.

Some old-fashioned names have grown in popularity thanks to celebrity parents. Singer Charlotte Church called her baby girl Ruby in 2007 -- the name was number two on last year's top 10.

Sarah Stone, editor of www.gurgle.com, the mother and baby social networking site that commissioned the study, said some names could disappear altogether.

"Not so long ago it seems we all knew a great uncle Harold or auntie Irene, but sadly it seems these names could soon be lost forever," she said.

The full list of declining names is online at: www.gurgle.com/babynames

In conclusion

This is not a surprise these names are declining but for me the worse is the new culture of naming chidlren after products or random objects..

A few examples to check here

Copy the links below into your browser and check some of these names out

http://www.amiright.com/names/siblings/

http://women.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/women/families/article2130988.ece

Toni Braxton

Good Singer, bad choice of names for children, Denim and Diezel? A lover of jeans?

Fatboy Slim and Zoe Ball

Woody-what a great name if he was going to be a toy maker or porn star

Bob Geldof and Paula Yates

Peaches HONEYBLOSSOM MICHELLE CHARLOTTE ANGEL VANESSA Geldof (well she got married today in Vegas and the vicar must have been in hysterics)
Fifi Trixibelle
Little Pixie
Heavenly Hirani Tiger Lily

A love of fairies or high as kites while name picking YOU DECIDE

Also the actor

Shia LaBeouf

His name means "thank God for beef", thanks to his grandfather (a comedian-I Kid you not) for that horrid name

Plus George Foreman's intelligence of calling all his kids George works?

But the worse for me, and I afraid to say this was when I worked in South London Streatham, and my work colleague were out at lunch..

Two little children were misbehaving and their mother called out to them...

Armani and Versace, come here...

I am afriad to say I burst out in hysterical laughter, and what made it worse the chidlren were dressed head to toe in deisgner name clothes,

1. They looked ridiculous
2. Their names are dreadful

Yes people these children I suspsect are at a Primary school being prepared by other 'Children' who may have weird names too but ready for letting their two friedns Armani and Versace for being bullied and beaten the sh*t out of...

I know how this feels, I am named after the male anatomy for short

Being called D*** since the age of 5 was annoying..

Personnally I like my full name, and it is a classic name..

But furthermore some people shouldn't be parents, but in this case this women with the two jean makes names needed to have the rights of naming her children taken away from her..

Through a process of artificial selection it appears that Richards are dying out as a species. The name Richard was the most popular 200 years ago, with 4,671 named in 1807. In 1907 it was 2,289 and in 2005 it was just 538 BBC news reports

We should appreciate the Richards that remain while we may still call on them. However it is not all doom and gloom as sub-species variations will remain with Sam (72nd) and Christopher (85th) to carry on the tradition of their fore bearers. But the most successful for the future will be the Daniel of the four horsemen.

With regards bible names, the Hebrew names are back with a vengeance with Joshua, Samuel and Daniel making it in the top ten of 2006. Luke is the first of the Gospel writers to appear ranked 17th - although Thomas makes an undoubtful appearance at number two.

For decades, Swedish tax authorities had banned parents from naming their children after fast-food chains, rock bands or their favourite brand of beer.

But tax authority spokesman Lars Tegenfeldt says the guidelines have been relaxed. He says "there is nothing negative about a name like Coca-Cola or McDonald's today. In the 1970s, maybe it was."

Still, authorities are drawing the line at giving children swear words for names. And forget about naming your child God, Allah or Devil.

I was pleasantly surprised today(about 10 days ago when I originally started this blog) as I caught 10 minutes of the Tyra Banks show (running late) before work. The episode was addressing the issue of names and whether a child's name impacts the level of success they will achieve in the future. It was a topic extracted from the book Freakonomics!

READ ABOUT IT: www.freakonomicsbook.com !

The short is that this economist dispels popular cultural myths (stereotypes really) by explaining the situations using his economist logic. It is very thought provoking. I don't know if I would have really read the book on my own - or own a copy if it wasn't required reading for one of my grad school classes, but I am very happy I made that investment - even if it was only on amazon.com! I even had to do a group project (in the same group as my husband no less) - we presented on the chapter that is explaining why drug dealers still live with their mamas! (shout out to Kuma and Natalie:)

Names are hard right ?

Shaquana, Moniqua, Lexus? No offense to anyone reading this with those names, but really - I wonder what goes through the names of HR people when they get a resume with Shaquana Jackson vs. Sarah Simon? Is Shauana rejected? Is she thought to be some g-fabulous sista with brightly colored extensions, equally bright nails and no skills? Is Sarah a quiet, reserved, well-mannered people pleaser? HMMMMM????

I leave you to ponder that - and to battle with any thoughts you had there. I encourage you to read the book or try to catch the Tyra episode to dispel any name myths you may have.

Also check out how my business partner and I created Charly Magazine's name -

(side-note I am singing - what's m'n - f"n name - snoop doggy dog - in my head :)

After much discussion over the past few months, Ryan and I have officially chosen our babies’

After much discussion over the past few months, Ryan and I have officially chosen our babies' names (we shook on it, using our "secret handshake," so it's official).

The 4 names we've been coming back to over and over again are Evan, Patrick, Connor, and Sean. Since we like them all, we've decided to use all 4. Our babies will be named:

Evan Sean and Connor Patrick

We went a little heavy on the Irish, and that's just fine, we think. Nothing wrong with being proud of your heritage, right?

Ryan wants to wait until the babies are born and then decide which one "looks" like an Evan or a Connor, rather than simply deciding that Baby A is Evan and Baby B is Connor, or something like that. I'm not certain what makes a person "look" like an Evan, but Ryan assures me we'll know, once they're born, who's who.

Connor and Evan, we can't wait to meet you!!

a response to tash's recent post at glow in the woods:

effie, like all of our children, had in in utero nickname. it was funny, not particularly appropriate, and we loved it. we had more or less decided on a girl's name (although we didn't know her sex and knew we'd need to come up with boys' names eventually). the name we were leaning toward was a combination of a name we loved with an important family name. when effie was delivered and we learned she was a girl, i took one look at her and said to mac, "i would have named her 'x'." "yes," he said. but we couldn't. she was so tiny, and the name felt so big, too big...it just wasn't right. so her nickname became her real name. she was delivered so early that there is no formal documentation of her (non)existence: no certificate, no social security card. her little baby bracelet simply says 'baby girl,' and that's because we were too shy about what we chose to name her to tell the nurses what her name actually was.

with bitsy we felt that we had learned one relevant lesson: the baby will have a lot of say about her name. so even though we knew she was a girl, we went to the hospital with a list of about a dozen names. sure, there were clear frontrunners, but there were some darkhorses as well. the names we would have given effie -- first and middle -- were nowhere on the list. they did not seem available to us, although of course they were. but considering them as names for bitsy felt too much like telling bitsy she was a replacement baby. so bitsy got a fresh list, which included names i'm sure i never would have considered for effie. but one of the names was also an important family name, and that was one of the names we chose. i felt that bitsy's life was an extra-special gift and we needed to honor an extra-special family member by using her name.

when we were pregnant with mae, though, we considered returning to the names we had originally chosen for effie. we talked about using one, or both, or using them in different combinations with other names. there seemed to be some psychological space to go along with the chronological distance between effie and mae, which made recycling the name seem possible. but long before we had settled anything my water broke; the instant i found out she was a girl her name came to me, clear and strong -- and it had been nowhere, nowhere, on any of our lists. i cried when i told mac what it was. and we agreed to treat it as her nickname while we were waiting to see whether she would live. by the time she was delivered i was so used to talking to her and calling her by her name that there really was no other choice for me. there is a small family connection to her name, but more than anything her name means something deeply personal to me. it has a lyricism to it that still has the power to make me cry. and she was delivered late enough that we have formal documentation of her name, something for which i am so very very grateful, and which brings on twinges of guilt for what sometimes feels like a failure of courage in not-naming effie.

now that this last baby is a boy, i also find myself grieving effie's "lost" name. we'll never use it. and i'll never get to name another girl. i'm not sure why that makes me so sad.

Knowledge alleviates one's fears and equips one to make the most suitable decision.

I am a staunch believer of this statement. And this virtue of mine (ahem) is demonstrated by devouring information ages before engaging in a given activity eg rearing pets and having babies. I finished reading "What to Expect When You Are Expecting" cover to cover 2 years ago, when we first had the thought to conceive a child. I visited related websites to learn about the latest antenatal care, pain relief, pregnancy etc etc. I even started searching for baby names then. I have not made up my mind but I really like Deborah and Timothy, two great Bible characters. Ya, maybe not very adventurous huh? What with Knox*, Shiloh*, Summer Rose* and Apple* abound.

We went for my 12th week check up on 15 July. I saw my baby again. Oh how he/she had grown! This mischeivous child was even waving at me. What a torture to see our child only once in four weeks. But every good thing has to come to an end. The US ended 10 minutes later after Dr Wendy did dating using CRL** & BPD*** (ask me, ask me) for the baby, and confirmed growth, heartbeat and brain formation.

Dr Wendy was happy with the baby's condition. But being a skeptic/worrier as I am, I voiced out my fear to her. How do I know for sure if my baby is normal? Will my baby have Down's syndrome or other abnormalities? The kind doctor then explained and referred me to see another specialist certified to carry out Nuchal Fold Translucency Screening (NTS) and identification of nasal bone for the baby. A visit which I had a few days later, and learnt a lesson: knowledge pays and COSTS. More on that next time!

* Names given by celebrities to their children

** Crown rump length (CRL) - the distance between the top of the head (crown) and bottom (rump)

*** Biparietal diameter (BPD) - distance between the two parietal bones on each side of the baby's head

Okay, not really. But I don't plan on using the actual baby's name in this blog, so I'm going to need a pseudonym. I thought it might be fun to open it up to the vast and limitless wisdom of the Internets. Even if I don't know the gender yet.
