Talk to me about your principles, not your paygrade. Whatever a man thinks in his heart, so he is.

Talk to me about your principles, not your paygrade. Whatever a man thinks in his heart, so he is. You claim to represent a most high set of values and then decline to lay them on the line (by deferring to a higher paygrade)? Decline and Defer? Duck and run? THIS is your big plan?! No, this is your ultimate embarassment. Even more so that you can't perceive the folly. And worse, that you think I can't see it either.

Don't give me your charm. Where is your executive wisdom and discernment?

Where are your guts? Pretty much tossed about, it would seem. Tossed about on the whims of paygrade and politic.

Your "change" is unstable in all its ways ... Enslavement to foreign law, like when the Kyoto agreement expires ... enslavement to more domestic policy. ILL-defined (tossed salad, wack-a-mole) law/policy. I'd rather live free and freely live.

There is no waste in the Most High's economy. I am happy to steward and enjoy the earth because I was commanded AND empowered to do so -- not because I need governments, at home and abroad, to dictate restraints on collective humanity and sacrifice cross-cultural economics on the alter of Almighty Nature. Do you seriously believe that story ends well? The audacity of false hope!

I currently have no income or health insurance, yet have never missed a payment on my 12 yr old student loans or any other bill (no one paid my way). I don't live on credit cards. I'm a professional by calling and made in the image of God by identity (like you). I am the product of Midwestern, God-fearing, "American Dream" values. I suffer. I hurt. I know what it is to be betrayed, angry, lonely, broke and in pain. I don't scramble around for a Plan B. I make no Plan B. Why? Because I can bank my life, liberty and soul on Plan A. I stand and fall on Plan A. Yes, I fall. I get back up. I fail. Failure is not defeat. Nor is it evidence against Plan A. Plan A takes failure into account.

You don't see me begging for bread or claiming that I don't have a sufficient paygrade for the comprehension of values which are good and right and true. Did I mention ... you don't see me begging for bread? I may have left out the fact ... that it is not the government that has shown me mercy and grace in hardship. It's folks that don't consult their paystub before acting on principle.

No thanks, friend. You are charming and have worked almost as hard as I have - but you've come up short on first principles. I will rest in the unchanging before I trust my life, liberty and pursuits to your(apparently) insufficient paygrade-based-leadership. I suppose you'll want a raise next ... ?

Listen, you can't buy Wisdom. It's free. Get some. Let that trickle down. Plenty (and I mean plenty) to go around. It's source, my friend, ... is INFINITE !! But come thirsty!!

If you are one of the many fans of Audacity, the much praised open source audio software, and you happen to have made the switch-voluntarily or not- to Vista, then maybe you have experienced some problems. Is audio recording in Audacity under XP fairly simple & straightforward a matter of selecting wave-out, stereo-mix, mono-mix or a similar recording device, in Vista this is unfortunately no longer the case, as you probably have experienced -otherwise you wouldn't be reading this blog post now, would you? Don't blame Audacity, however: Microsoft's DRM (Digital Rights Management) is the leading villain character in this play. It all boils down to the fact that you can no longer simply record anything of your liking: wave-out doesn't even appear among your recording devices. Is there really no work-around? Well, there is, but it's perhaps best not to cry victory yet.

The silly thing is that, in spite of it not being visible, quite often wave-out is still a functional recording device; it is Vista that arrogantly hides it from its recording device panel. Now, to change its status so that stereo-mix does appear in that list, here's what you can try. By the way, screenshots are from a Dutch Vista system -sorry for that, but I'm sure you'll get the idea.

Go to Sound in the Control Panel's classic view and select the Recording tab.

Click somewhere in the empty space in the central list pane (where the other recording devices appear) or right-click any of the devices listed. Make sure that "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices" are checked. Stereo Mix should show up (or mono-mix, whatuhear, or something similar).

[caption id="attachment_121" align="alignnone" width="414" caption="Lift the veil!"][/caption]

If you're lucky, this may already do it for you. Right-click on stereo-mix and set it as default.

[caption id="attachment_122" align="alignnone" width="414" caption="audacity_opnameapparaten02"][/caption]

Open an Audacity project. The dropdown menu with recording devices will still be grayed out, but via Edit > Preferences you can select stereo-mix. Sweet.

[caption id="attachment_123" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="Audacity settings"][/caption]

If you're not so lucky (owners of a Sigmatel audiocard know what I'm talking about), then here's something else you can try.

Go and find the XP-drivers for your audiocard. But I don't have XP, I'm using Vista! Yes, I know, but just follow along. If you don't know which audiocard you have in your system, then open up the control panel and choose System > Hardware > Device manager. You'll find what you need under Audio, video & game settings. Google the name of your audiocard, and combine your search with download XP drivers or something similar and no doubt you'll quickly find what you need.

Now here's the trick: install the drivers in compatibility mode. This is how you proceed: open up an explorer (not Internet Explorer!), navigate to the drivers you just downloaded, right-click on them and choose Properties.

In the compatibility tab, choose Windows XP-SP2 in the pulldown. Confirm via Ok.

[caption id="attachment_124" align="alignnone" width="377" caption="Change the compatibility mode for the drivers"][/caption]

In explorer double-click the drivers to start installing them -reboot if necessary. Cross your fingers a go and check your audio devices.

I hope this helps for you. Good luck...

Adobe Audition is a music production (recording, mixing, editing...) program, as is Audacity.

If you're a song writer, you probably record reference vocals or demos for sales of your music, for example. I know a lot of lyricists use Audacity to record on and so was I up until a couple of days ago.

Audacity was a good program for me to use as it's simple interface meant that I could easily record my vocals and use a few cool effects to make it sound a bit more professional. But after using Audition, I've scrapped Audacity for good now.

I'd heard about Audition on a forum and it's apparently what a lot of the pros use. So i downloaded the trial version to see what it was all about. At first I thought it would be difficult to use but after watching a few youtube tutorials I'm already quite farmiliar with it. It doesn't really take long to get used to and I'm not a producer at all so I'd recommend it ;)

I'm now thinking about buying the full version of it, too. It would be perfect for me to practise my production skills aswell as singing and writing, which should be fun and interesting (LOL) :D

I hope to start putting together an album demo soon aswell. I'll keep you updated.

Did Brooks and Dunn really give the Obama campaign permission to use their song, “Only in Amer

Did Brooks and Dunn really give the Obama campaign permission to use their song, "Only in America", at the conclusion of Barack Obama's speech at INVESCO FIELD? ;)

It is very obvious to me that Barack Obama is a better storyteller, a man who is pretty good at pulling at the heart strings, more than he is a great leader...or even a good politician.

After listening to his acceptance speech, I can honestly say that I DO NOT WANT THIS MAN TO LEAD THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

Period, end of story.

I can say without equivocation that Barack Obama is a manufactured candidate...I do not know who is behind him and I am not absolutely certain who is pulling the strings behind the scenes...but something is just not right.

There is absolutely no substance to this man outside of his love for his daughters; everything else that he "champions" comes off as hollow and, well, just something that he is supposed to say. He is a "pleaser", by nature, and I do not want a follower, pleaser, or however you want to describe it without having to "dash" some of the letters of the description to lead me, my sons, my family or my friends and neighbors into the next 4 years.

There is nothing that Barack Obama said tonight that hasn't been embraced by a million other Democratic candidates for President and the only one with any actual "skill" with the American people was Bill Clinton.

And Barack Obama, you are certainly no Bill Clinton.

Neither are you a Martin King, Jr., Alan Keyes, Bill Cosby, Thomas Sowell, etc.---all of these men have passion, conviction, knowledge and proof that they actually DID SOMETHING with the convictions that they held or still hold dear to their hearts.

Regarding the economy, you spoke of the loss of hope and horrible condition that America was in...ignoring the fact that negative growth in the economy has not occurred since the 9/11 and that today we found out that the U.S. GDP went up 3.3% in the last quarter. You joked about how out of touch John McCain was regarding the economy for everyday folks...but tell us Barack Obama...when's the last time you went grocery shopping? When was your last trip to the Home Depot to pick up a few light bulbs, some weed killer and some 2X4's? Do YOU have a nanny that watches your kids before and after school for you and Michelle...or do you have to hope and pray for a huge tip as a waitress does so that you can stay at home when little Johnny is sick?

You talk of empathy...but you cannot have that unless you have lived the lives of others; in other words, it's better to just listen and offer encouragement, rather than pretend to perfectly "get it", as you say you do and McCain does not.

You talk of health care for everyone and that how everyone should have the same health care that every U.S. Senator or Representative has...but it would be a lot more genuine from you if you just were grateful for the health care that we all pay for you with our taxes rather than bankrupt our nation because you have to raise taxes so much in order to pay for all of us.

You talk about, echoing the same nonsense from Al Gore's speech, how if a Democrat or you would have been in office as President of the United States that you wouldn't have been afraid to go into those "mountains" and get Osama Bin Laden and bring him to justice; is there something that you know about Bin Laden's location that we don't? How would you propose luring him out...perhaps a bag of Cheetos or would you use a little hummus and flat bread? Don't you know that the reason the terrorists fled to the mountains is because they would always have the advantage militarily if an attack was waged upon them?

Or did General Petraeus inform you of a change to that basic philosophy of battle?

You talked about illegal immigration and how it's not right for America to split up a mother and a child who've crossed the border illegally and chosen to live here despite having broken the law...do you think Mexico or any other nation believes it's ok for Americans to do the same thing in their own backyards? What would India, Japan, Brazil, Germany, Italy and Mexico say to that?

You talked about the need to embrace the gay and lesbian community...by letting them into the hospitals for a visit...wow, cool beans! I am sure that "Ellen" will be excited to hear that strong endorsement of the GLBT community, a group who is banking on you and that has full confidence that you will finally give them their "equal" rights and end discrimination based on sexual behavior, once and for all...

You talked about Martin Luther King, Jr. and how his struggle was your struggle...and you couldn't be further from the truth. Yes, we know all about your upbringing and yes, we know about how you struggled with your bi-racial existence...but you never had to struggle like Martin Luther King, Jr. In fact, it was because of him and so many others that you didn't have to worry about whether or not you would be able to afford your college education...schools would be begging for your admission because of your skin color, part of the debt that this generation is paying for because of the sins of the past, i.e. slavery and discrimination.

Instead of comparing yourself to Dr. King, and then changing your voice tonality to that of a preacher while you spoke of him, you should just be grateful, thankful that King, Jr. was not a follower, a "yes man", like you have been your whole life.

Because you have chosen the path of least resistance...a path that you knew you could tread without opposition...because you could always find a large group of people who would buy in to your "sob story" as you reminded them of the color of your skin, your single mom, your father who left you, etc.

And now you come before America and say that you understand the plight of the common man? Do you think that Middle America even gives a darn about the idiocy of Global Warming? No...they just want enough money to cover their electric bill this month. Do you think that Middle America wants you to guarantee their health care if you tell them what to eat, when to eat it, how much they can eat and then tax them up the ying-yang in order to pay for it?

Do you really think that from Generation X and on down that you can really talk to them (with a straight face) about the absolute solvency of Social Security? Do you really think that we are even depending on that being what you called America's "retirement plan"? Talk about out of touch...most people have to invest little by little in the markets or otherwise in order to prepare for their futures, not rely on Social Security as our "retirement". The AUDACITY of some of these Americans...

You said you have everything, all of your grand schemes and plans budgeted down to the very last penny...at WHAT POINT would you actually like to share the numbers with the American people? Would you mind (same for John McCain, as well) actually outlining what you are going to do and how much it will cost...and then publish it for all to see before November 4th or do we just need to take your word for it?

You promised EVERYONE that EVERYTHING in our lives would be protected and that all of the things that we hold dear in our lives would be insured from harm and given every chance for success.

Seriously? Do you really think that you can just tell some silly stories, prick at our hearts and then expect us to believe that crock of garbage?

You are not able to do that, Barack Obama...and neither is anybody else in this world! We don't want your nose in everything that we do, in every choice we make or every opportunity that we may want to seize upon...because what we want is someone who will follow the Constitution, do all that they can to provide a strong military with which to protect us from harm and give us the freedoms that we need in order to determine our own destiny, not a piggy-back ride from Barack Obama that will just lead to endless guilt trips, from you, after we achieve success with you whispering, "see, I knew we could help you...without us, you wouldn't have had the chance. Now, about the payback that we need from you..."

The entire production of Barack Obama's acceptance speech was so contrived and blatantly over-the-top...and that was all by design.

Barack Obama will make it so that no one is homeless; Barack Obama will make it so that we will never see war again; Barack Obama will make it so that no matter how stupid or undeserving we are of a college education, we still get one; wherever there is a perceived injustice, Barack Obama will be there to right the wrong.

And on and on and on...and the worst part about it all is that Michelle and EVEN BARACK HIMSELF are starting to believe in their own B.S., actually believing that he is the Chosen One to lead America to the Promised Land, once again.

And so was the plan of whoever has been the designer of this manufactured candidate, Barack Obama, who is just a puppet with no backbone and no substance...but that will save YOU from those evil Republicans or other political parties who wish nothing more than to break your will and make your life miserable!

I've got news for you, Candidate Obama: you're no Moses, you're no Savior, you're no Martin Luther King, Jr. and you're not even the best person to lead coming from the Democratic Party... Hillary Clinton is and she proved that the other night with her speech, at the Convention.

And you are ABSOLUTELY NOT THE RIGHT PERSON TO LEAD AMERICA FOR THE COMING 4 YEARS...

We can only hope that the last 18 months of political Primaries was all a big hoax and that somehow we are just in a bad "Groundhog Day" film, where we keep waking up to the most inept candidates anyone could find..day after day after day...

I say, how about Bill Murray for President!

Skype is great. I’ve been using it for over a year now and I love it. With the SkypeOut pa

Skype is great. I've been using it for over a year now and I love it. With the SkypeOut package, I can conveniently place calls to land line phones for a flat (cheap) monthly charge. One of the things I've used Skype for is podcasting. A group of buddies and I have a weekly podcast (a link to follow - once we get the site up). Skype is a stable, robust platform to host podcast sessions over. Of course, we need a way to record our ramblings, so how does 1 go about doing this?

The science of PC audio is a complex one. Aside from just "playing" sound, your audio card is capable of (sometimes) multiple outputs and inputs. While most people are familiar with the traditional "speaker" output and "microphone" input, you might also have separate outputs for each channel of sound in a surround sound system and a line in input. And that's just on the hardware side. Within the sound card, it has the capability to take all inputs and outputs and mix them together into one accessible channel. This is referred to as the "Stereo Mix". While the only required input for Skype is your microphone, your recording software will need to hear more than just your voice. What we'll want to do is record the "stereo mix" channel from the sound card.

Now that we have that accomplished, all we need is a recording program. While there are many available, the best I've found is audacity. It's free, lightweight, and easy to use. Once you download and install audacity, we'll want to tell it to record audio from your stereo mix. All done, right? Not quite. Because of the nature of the "stereo mix" channel, Microsoft often times disables it by default within the audio properties (assuming your sound card supports it). The reason for this is due to the fact that stereo mix greatly increases your chances of producing a feedback loop - where your audio input is sent back through your audio ouput, and in turn back through your input (and so on). Before you tell audacity to record your stereo mix, we'll need to be sure to enable it from within windows.

To enable stereo mix in Windows:

Go to Start -> Control Panel

In Vista, go to the recording tab and find "Stereo Mix". Right click and select enable. Once enabled, right click it again and select "Set as Default Device"

In XP, go to "Sounds and Audio Devices" (If you don't have classic view enabled, you'll need to go to "Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices" first, then the former). Click the "Advanced" button in the volume tab to bring up the "volume control" mixer (alternatively, if enabled, you can always get here by double-clicking the volume icon in the icon tray). If you see a "Stereo Mix" section in the mixer, ensure that Mute is unchecked and the volume is turned up. If it isn't there, go to Options -> Properties, and ensure that there is a check next to Stereo Mix.

Dell, in their ever-increasing attempt to capitalize, decided they would charge users for the ability to stereo mix, so these instructions won't work. However, follow the instructions here to enable it.

Once you've enabled stereo mix, Audacity should record from it (since we set it as default). Try placing a few test calls and recording them from Audacity. If you've done things correctly, it should work. As usual, comment with questions or problems.

That's all! Thanks, and happy computing!

Well if you’re a recording singer, musician- you’ll know. If you’re a songwriter-

Well if you're a recording singer, musician- you'll know. If you're a songwriter- you'll probably also know, as will all you producers: crappy quality recordings of instruments and vocals are the most annoying thing ever!! Grrrr...

As I mentioned within a previous post: I'm currently using Audacity to record vocals for vocal reference tracks when I write new songs to sell. I'm only 16 (17 tomorrow, may i add- remember to leave some birthday love! Haha... :P) so as far as money goes, I'm not particularly good at keeping it, or spending it wisely (LOL). I didn't even have a mic until recently because I was being dumb and using the intergrated microphone on my laptop which was pointless because every time you recorded yourself singing it would come out all crackly and there would be SO much background noise, it was unbelievable. The fan on my laptop didn't help either- there was no wire to move the mic from the laptop so you could constantly hear the fan hissing in the recordings.

The mic I got after that wasn't so good either to be honest. My mom's a pretty musical person, as is a few other members of my family so she's got some microphones and stuff from when the family come round and have a laugh with the karaoke (embarassing.... LOL). So i borrowed one but it was crap. And theeeeen...

I found this other mic which is absoloutly amazing! It's a professional mic and i don't know where the feck she got it from but there's no background noise when I sing, there's no hissing, there's nothing. Nout. Nil. Zero. HA! Except for my voice, of course. It's great, so now I can record my reference vocals in high quality, which is good 'cause people tend to think you're more of a professional writer or whatever... :D

I'm so excited! I can't wait to get recording some new songs!

PS: Remember the birthday love for tomorrow guys :)

Good afternoon,

Last night, when we worked on cleaning up the audio cutoffs from our Hazelnut Tech Talk Episode 8’s interview with Sarah Lacy, we made an Apple Alert Sound.

It came rather accidentally, when, in a desire to test just how well can Audacity’s “Remove Noise” filter works, we apply it to a small segment of the audio.

And now we can introduce to you: The Tweet Sound (right-click and direct download it.)

Instruction: (here’s Apple’s official instruction)

Go to Finder

Hit Apple+Shift+G or click on the menu “Go → Go To Folder...”

Type “~/Library/Sounds”

Drop the Tweet.aif file into the newly opened window.

Go to System Preferences → Sound

The Tweet Sound should be located on the bottom of the list.

Enjoy!

D.I.Y video conversion for free

Continuing on with my DIY theme, I’m focusing on video conversion - something every journalist

Continuing on with my DIY theme, I'm focusing on video conversion - something every journalist is going to need in the future. By no means a comprehensive source, but should be enough. Stop me if you've heard this.

There are far too many video and audio formats which modern electronics spit out, and getting them into a usable format for your editing programs can be tricky at the best of times.

Ok, first, the example.mpg is called the file extension or format. Just so you know.

Now go download a copy of Quick Media Converter from Cocoonsoft, install and learn to use it. This one is free, passed web and my own virus and spy-ware scans, and can convert to and from most formats (all that you'll need) and is relatively easy to use.

There are a host of other crap programs on the net where you can convert perhaps a couple of formats and almost all of them are ridiculously priced for what they do. I think I finally found a decent free program.

Of course there may be issues on various operating systems, hopefully not yours. I'm running Windows Vista with 1gb ram and centrino duo processor and I haven't had any trouble with it - maybe an occasional crash.

Converting video files can consume quite a lot of your computers resources as it needs to buffer (cache (remember)) the file as it converts it, plus run it through. Your computer will slow down a lot during conversion. If your computer sucks don't think it's going to run nicely.

Windows Movie Maker is not as great as industry standard programs, but I'm doing this on a student budget. Sometimes free tools are all you need. Speaking of free tools - you should get Audacity and train up on that. It's essential to know how to use that when your making video. Do it. Do it now.

Different devices record video in different formats. My camera spits out .mov (or Quicktime) files, and my phone .3gp videos, both unacceptable to WMM. Using QMC they can both be turned into WMM friendly file types, pretty quick.

From what I can see WMM doesn't mind .mpg .mpeg and .wmv so go for those. With a bit of experimenting you'll see which formats work best. You will never use half of the formats on QMC unless you have iphone, nintendo wii, ipod touch, psp, ipod or xbox - handy to have if you need them I guess.

Other devices record to .3g2 (in phones), .mpg or .mpeg (mostly in cameras) or possibly even .avi video or .mp4 video. Why can't they all be the same? I wish I knew.Theres a hell of a lot of formats out there, more than any journo needs.

Converting between certain file types can produce results ranging from terrible to fantastic - but you will normally lose a bit of quality each time it is converted. Just experiment with the different formats and see how they come out.

Youtube videos are in .flv (Flash Video) format. You can download those, but be careful with the copyright etc. Tip: Once the flash video has downloaded, rename the file with .flv appended to it then convert with QMC. Works a charm.

Got that?

It’s pretty bad when the best you can hope for in a VP candidate is that he will rip John McC

It's pretty bad when the best you can hope for in a VP candidate is that he will rip John McCain's face off. Today, that's about as audacious as we dare hope, having nearly lost all hope of seeing real integrity restored to American politics. Sure, we'll cast our vote for Obama-Biden, even if they, themselves, seem to have lost -- if ever they owned -- the integrity and chutzpah, to state, outright, that the emperor and his entire entourage are stark-raving naked.

As is, it seems that both Obama and Biden tow the main line, the main line being a veritable sewer pipe full of lies, misinformation and innuendo spit out by Bush-Cheney, then sanctified by the media. And it is this raw sewage that forms the "truths" upon which America's domestic and foreign policy is built. This was most recently evidenced in Biden's statement on the Georgia-Russia conflict, when he said, "The war that began in Georgia is no longer about that country alone. It has become a question of whether and how the West will stand up for the rights of free people throughout the region."

Superman couldn't have said it better himself. No need to extrapolate on the not-so-subtle nuances of the situation -- nuances which, in another time, would have been called by name: the truth.

American politicians, on both sides, have lost their bearings and have taken with them the American people. Our politicians have been reduced -- willingly, it seems, even as they've been bribed and blackmailed, too -- into playing understudies to the real truthsayers on the world stage, reading from a playbook written by swaggering warmongers and disreputable liars & cheats. Biden's assessment of the Russia-Georgia conflict more or less echoed Obama's words, which more or less echoed the words of Condi, Bush and McCain. Nowhere in the dialogue-proper of American politics can we hope to hear the truth: "What in the hell is the U.S. doing in the first place, by funding, arming and prodding Georgia to go to war with South Ossetia and, by extension, Russia?"

With few exceptions, truth has evaporated from our polical landscape to the extent that truth, itself, has become so audacious that it offends the sensibilities to even acknowledge that such audacities could be true. But they are. And to ensure that no one speaks these truths, the Bush Administration has effectively, by design, disgraced truth by relegating it to the minions of the conspiracy theorists.

Last February (sometime after Edwards bowed out, yet months before discovering that Edwards was a liar and a hypocrite)we pinned our hopes onto the Obama campaign to forge a renaissance of truthfulness. Then we watched as, molecule by molecule, it evaporated, sort of like a shallow mud puddle on hot summer pavement. At first, we made concessions on his behalf: "He's doing what he has to do to get elected," we told ourselves. "The media will fry him if he doesn't give the appearance of moderating on this particular position."

But at some point, after staring overlong into that non-descript residual of dust on the pavement, we had to acknowledge the truth that Americans don't really want truth, and especially if it takes more than 5 words to convey that truth. What the American attention span best responds to is a dummied down, black and white, right vs. wrong version of the truth -- something that can be condensed into a sound-byte, emblazed below the talking heads on CNN -- a mantra that be quickly transcribed into email missives: freedom fries, the war on terror, the axis of evil, weapons of mass destruction, Barrack Hussein Obama, evil empire, surge success, I'm proud of my country, g.d. America, stay the course, chickens coming home to roost, pledge of allegiance, flag pin, elitist liberal ....

Our politicians more closely resemble the protaganists in dime store novels than the statesmen who forged, then held together our Constitution and our country for over 200 years. But, apparently, this is what the majority of Americans want in their leaders.

After all, it was "they" who voted Bush into office -- not once, but twice. And it is "they" who know, but simply don't care, that the war in Iraq that has killed upwards of 100,00 innocent Iraq citizens was waged on an elaborately designed facade of lies, so that we could steal Iraq's oil. It is "they" who slather their bumpers in American flags and who rabidly salivate over a one-inch flag pin, yet couldn't care less that our Constitution and Bill of Rights have been decimated. It is "they" who have gladly surrendered our economy, our jobs, our homes, our health, our Constitutional rights, our environment, our children's and our grandchildren's futures over to a band of theives.

It is, therefore, "we" who are out of step with America.

Still.... We haven't entirely abandoned all hope. Our hope, today, is that Joe Biden -- in his infamy for speaking before thinking -- will do the right thing and rip John McCain's face off. You never know. The trend could catch on: it may once again be fashionable for politicians to be so outraged by the b.s. and lies that they will state, outright, for all the world to hear, that the emperor and his entire entourage are stark raving mad. It happened to Nixon in the 1970s. It could happen again.

For this reason, and this reason alone, we are glad to see Biden on the ticket, instead of, say, Jack Reed -- an infinitely more qualified politician, who would never have made the cut with Americans: he's too honest, he's intellectual, he's thoughtful, he's solidly grounded in foreign policy and diplomacy, he's well-respected on Capitol Hill and, besides, it would have been only a matter of time before the media took note of his height, or perhaps they would have sleuthed out that he drinks lemon in his tea, or perhaps he was the best in his class at West Point -- something terribly terrible to entirely disqualify him for the office of vice-presidency.
