Can you believe the Rock Tent Vault has now let 499 pictures from the past 4 decades to see the light of day!  With the addition of numerous photos today from the Allman Brothers 1982, we are 1 picture away from number 500!  This is all thanks to you for being part of our space journey.

I've Seen The Stars Tonite thanks to Craig Fenton's new Jefferson Starship book, August 26, 2008

Approximately two years ago Craig Fenton gave us the Jefferson Airplane Flight Manual with Take Me To A Circus Tent. He returns with Have You Seen The Stars Tonite (Jefferson Starship Flight Manual) 74-78 as well as 1992-2007.

Once again the level of expertise reaches the heart of not only the reader but an original Jefferson Airplane member. Marty Balin gave Craig some accolades on the back cover of the Jefferson Airplane book. Signe Anderson does the same for the Jefferson Starship. The finest recommendation a rock and roll author and historian can receive is when the highest level of satisfaction comes from the band.

Have You Seen The Stars Tonite is over 500 pages and contains nearly 180 photos. The contents make you wonder how many years the information took to assemble. You can look at over 700 concerts the band performed, the personal of the particular show, and the songs they played. Craig furnishes the first time a song appeared on stage, a year by year break-down of the tunes played, which Jefferson Airplane songs they decided to perform, a complete list of all the members of the band and the shows they played through the years. There is a terrific listing of the studio albums, singles, and many of the solo releases, and special guests that played with the Jefferson Starship on stage.

If what you see is as important as what you read, Craig has you covered with many photos not previously in print. That was one of the many things that made the Airplane book so special. The full-page photo of Spencer Dryden from the benefit in 2004 is tremendous in capturing the moment and the mood, page 168 features Grace Slick from the Airplane at the Isle Of Wight, and there are a good deal of KBC Band photos that have not seen the light of day.

The book is content free of any of the period with Mickey Thomas. You don't have to be concerned about superfluous chapters!

While other airlines seem to be streamlining, Craig Fenton is giving the consumer a first class ticket aboard the flight.

How are you? Anything nice planned for the holiday weekend?

We have a great gem from the Rock Tent Vault in a bit. First Signe Anderson thanks everyone that made her return to the stage feel so special in Oregon this past week. She has the next set of medical tests around September 2, 2008. Please wish her well. We want her health reports to show she is cancer free.

Thank you to Eric for a 5 star review on Amazon for my new Jefferson Starship book "Have You Seen The Stars Tonite." I'll talk about that in another blog update 30 minutes or so from now.

The main event is a goody. We fly back to 1996 and find Eric Clapton and his band on stage in Europe.

He plays a great Bob Marley tune "I Shot The Sheriff."

The rendition is interesting for the approach. Not always slow and not always rocking but always interesting. Check it out and enjoy!

Another of my favorite song...."Unchained Melody" by Righteous Brothers (Released in 1965-#4 US, #14 UK /"Hung on You" - #47 US Charts), a Bobby Hatfield solo that originally was on the B-Side of "Hung on You", and "Ebb-Tide."

The Righteous Brothers were the Musical Duo of Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield. Their emotive vocal stylings were sometimes dubbed "Blue Eyed Soul" Medley and Hatfield both possessed exceptional vocal talent, with range, control and tone that helped them create a strong and distinct duet sound and also to perform as soloists. Medley sang the low parts with his deep, soulful bass-baritone with Hatfield taking the higher register vocals with his soaring tenor.

And what about his singing ? Different and unconventional no doubt, but what a voice ! He carved a unique niche for himself as a singer of note.

In movies, he typically sang one philosophical song, that would be playing while the opening credits would be rolling on the screen. And this song would set the tone for the movie.

S D Burman has sung very few songs, but almost all of them have become immortal.

Here is one of the most memorable songs sung by S D Burman. The movie is "Guide", and the lyrics, written by Shailendra, are so simple, yet they are so deeply philosophical and full of pathos, all at the same time. The hero after being freed from the jail, finds himself alone in the world, and he is wondering what lies in store for him. The town where once he ruled the roost and which has forgotten him ( no one either from the town or his near or dear ones comes to receive him), may not treat him kindly, he thinks, and decides to go away to some unknown distant place instead. He is walking away to that distant place, and this song is playing in the background.

It is a very moving situation, and that has been conveyed very emotively in this song.

How are you doing? Thanks for boarding the flight. What a treat. August 24th, 2008 saw the return of Signe Anderson on stage. Astoria, Oregon was the setting as she played for the first time with Marty Balin, Bob Harvey, and Jerry Peloquin since 1965. She had played with Marty and Paul Kantner since she left in 1966 but not with Bob and Jerry.

Rick Martin was kind enough to give written permission of his copyrighted photos he had of the rehearsal that tool place on the same day.

You can enjoy the pictures of Signe, Marty, Bob, Barry Flast the one time keyboard-player for the Jefferson Starship, and Slick Aguilar from the Jefferson Starship. Rick Martin gets in a couple of pictures as well.
